Re:This is why developers are not sysadmins
I'm just glad they don't advertise "business solution" software in Skymall.
Sadly, they do. Not many, but just enough to drive your IT dept batty.
Here is an example:

Already exists
You can get scrolling marquee licence plate holders. This is just the first link I found, I have seen them cheaper at places like Canadian Tire (which will probably confuse 98 per cent of readers here). But they do exist.
Still, making my own would be fun, I could put it up on the wall of my cubicle and do Facebook-style status updates with it. "Jabbrwokk is picking his nose and flicking it at the back of Jeff's head."

Well, there's this widget.
Personally, if this is such a problem you're probably carrying too many electronic widgets. But if you really need them, then this thing is supposed to have adapters for most stuff.

Re:I would recommend...!?!The Hawaii Chair: http://www.skymall.com/shopping/detail.htm?pid=102518472&pnr=M53 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9_amg-Aos4 It will give me amazing 6 pack abs in 3 weeks with no dieting. Yeah but I don't think that would be very handy... you know... after hours.

Laptop desks
Well, I do a lot of traveling, so I picked up one of these and it is a lifesaver. It folds up and stores in the laptop bag, and if you do not fold down the legs, it would work in your lap.
Personally, I prefer one that is free-standing, but this works for both solutions - and has enough space for laptop + notepad + mouse + other junk. And, if you travel as much as I do, it make long waits at the airport\train station\wherver a lot easier to be effective. I have a few velcro tabs on it to hold backpack drives, antennas, etc - huge help (for me at least)

If you can buy a 6" RC helicopter for $80 now...I can only imagine what government/military designers can come up with for thousands of dollars, maybe tens of thousands:
6 inch RC helicopter for $80 at Skymall
I have no idea if people really saw this or what the logic would be of using such a device at a war protest, but to say that such a device is impossible with not only today's consumer technology, but expensive, secret military technology seems mighty foolish to me. Take a look at the link and see how small such a cheap device is. It can fly for 8 minutes on a charge. I really don't think it's far-fetched to imagine something half the size that can fly twice the amount of time, especially if cost is no problem. That's all they would really need.

Found the device...
I actually saw the exact device you're looking for while browsing the Skymall catalog on a recent flight..

Re:Still way too much of a pain...
what you really want to do at an airport is top off your battery before the flight. Why? Well, even though some morons say "all airplanes now have DC power jacks", the truth is that almost none of them do.
This is true, and the "plane connector" is quite rare. However, many planes have headphone jacks, and apparently someone has made a device that leeches power from those! I saw this in a sky mall magazine (bleh) but if it works it would be cool. Not enough to power your laptop, but it might charge your phone or pda.

This is a read-only one but...
I learned of the existence of this in a SkyMall catalog on a particularly awful Delta flight today:
USB Bible
Pray tell, (ok, pun not intended), what is the point of this thing? Is this for when you really need that Jesus fix, and are at a computer with no net access? I don't get it... -
Re:A good use for existing RFID tags
Good idea--it's already been implemented. However, it is a little more consumer friendly--your dog or cat gets a collar that unlocks the pet door for them when they get near.
Saw this on a business flight a couple months ago in the SkyMall catalog ($69.95).

SkyMallYou can't beat SkyMall for useless crap for people with too much money. I'd recommend the iPen...
As clever as it is discreet - the world's first digital camera/recorder/PDA stylus/pen
I'm holding out for iPen 2.0, the one that also includes a built-in cell phone, LED flashlight, laser level, pocket pepper grinder, and perfume dispenser.
To all the world you're holding a stylish ballpoint. But there's a world of technology packed into the iPen. It's little more than 5 in. long and is the world's first combination ballpoint, viewfinder digital camera, a web cam, and as a stylus for your PDA. Discreet buttons let you select a specific function. Built-in 8MB flash memory can hold up to or up to 400 digital still images, or connect directly to a USB interface to use as a PC web camera. -

this might work
i was recently on a plane, and saw this in the SkyMall catalog.
I haven't used it, but it looks like a decent product, if you search some, you can probably find a better description, but i don't care.
