Re:20 years passed
he's probably pretty much a hero to many Americans on slashdot. Being a religious nut [...] is just an added bonus.
What? Being religious gets someone a bonus on slashdot? Protip: you might like to try reading this website first to get a feel for the commenters first.

Must be the slashdor effect. -
Re:Dupe
Actually, you misspelled the URL.

Or, for that matter:

Re:This is also done with domain suffixes.
Unfortunately/Fortunately the wonderful people at slashdot have secured www.slashdot.com which switches over to
.org as most people know. Better yet, a fellow slashdotter in the name of slashdot precured www.slashdor.org because he was sick of the timeout messages. -
Re:fp
whoops
You probably meant to type Slashdot
An astounding 26797 people have also made this mistake so far as of 1/7/2002! -
Why not fix it the old-fashioned way?
A bit OT but...
If you made a mistake in your contact info, you could've rectified the problem by voice phone and fax. That's what I did when the contact info for a domain I registered had to be updated because the email was an expired domain for a now-defunct company. Network Solutions had surprisingly good customer service and once they verify the credentials via fax (or even snail-mail) they will make any changed required without the use of email.
That way seems low-tech and backwards, but you don't need to register an otherwise useless domain and it costs nothing more than your time (certainly mot much more than the trouble of registering a domain and setting up the DNS).
Us techie types should be careful not to overlook the most simple solution because it is low tech...
OTOH, the useless domain could be useful to keep track of how many OTHER people make that typo...kinda like the Slashdor site... -
the image servers run on this
I can remember krow (aka Brian Aker) tell me in IRC about how he setup apache2 to just server images. Like the most simple thing you can do. It requires no special threading, or proces modes, just http1.1. At most, they can do geographic ad targeting with revers DNS lookups tied to the image servers. Blah... still not that special, but at least they can say they run apache2. I have also read where he claims apache2 is't ready for prime time. This is very telling, not because he is senior Slashdot developer, but more because he is known best for his apache 1.3 modules, such as mod_mp3, or mod_layout.
