I completely agree. These few glitches give the game character. The silient bomb plant on dust2 in CS 1.6 is a great example of this. Glitches can encourage teamwork, which is one of the best parts of online gaming for me. When you work with complete strangers and just rout another group because your group of less skilled players worked as a team instead of individually, it makes the game much more enjoyable than having a high kill count. One of the recent games where this worked best is UT 2004 in onslaught mode. Working together with good communication having someone ready to charge nodes ahead made the game much more of a strategic.

I think you're referring to the "personal protection" (conceal and carry law) that was passed a few years back with another law. It was revoked late last summer on the technicality that it was added onto another law. Fortunately for everyone in Minnesota, an even better law recently passed this spring allowing responsible citizens to legally carry a firearm concealed and open.

  5. Re:To a point.. on Graphics Don't Matter · · Score: 1

My point exactly. I currently own 5-6 consoles, and have spent more time lately playing older games than my newer ones. Why? Perhaps its for nastalgic value, perhaps I'm shitfaced and can only mentally handle a game I've been playing for a third of my life--but I think it goes beyond that.

With gameplay, whenever someone says "Oh man, ____ was so much better back in the day" if all of the particles in the universe were pixals, that still wouldn't be enough for the rolleyes image I want to post. For example, I think post-grunge rock (~95-99) was some of the best pop music in my life. When I think of the artists, I don't think of the stupid "I'm with the DJ" song or Spice Girls. I think of Blind Mellon, Weezer, Silverchair, and some even more pop music I'm embarrassed to admit.

You replay games with the best gameplay. I don't even own 5 xbox games, I don't even own 10 ps2 games. I do own all the great NES, SNES, Dreamcast, etc. games because there have been more and a longer time to figure out which ones are the best. Whenever I think of those systems as ultimate and how gameplay has crapped out to just the highest graphics. I go onto my modded xbox and select a SNES game at random. Then I imagine spending $60 on that game and throw up a little in my mouth.

You can't completely discount graphics as 'a mere exciting blip to amazing gameplay' because it goes beyond. Myst, HL/HL2, are all great examples of when graphics make a difference. The gameplay is great, but they're still just one of a giant genre and graphics helped them stand out.

Every time I help a friend build a computer they've needed a bigger/more powerful power supply than the guy before. We're not just talking about wattage here--you also need enough amps across the rails.

If you wanted to get a faster processor and lower its speed for daily use, you're saving on your energy bill. I wonder how long it would take you if you brought a 4000+ to 2800+ speeds to save enough on your energy bill to pay off the cost of the faster processor. We have to assume they both use the same amount of energy when running at full speed, which seems to be okay for the situation.

I think a helpful way to objectively look at any question is make an analogy to cars. What if a manufacturer has a defect on a car that allows some peoples electronic locks to be opened by a common remotes which doesn't exist but arguably could be built? Would it be better for the manufacturer to announce that you can get your cars patched at any dealer or just not announce this flaw?

Maybe a better question is would the public ALLOW car manufacturers to find numerous flaws similar to the fictional one above?

Because I always keep updated and spend over half my year on a network best compared to a vietnamese whore-house when it comes to viruses (see college for more info) I think it is always good to announce and service users w/ patches no matter the potential for problems.
