Waiting for a TARDIS.Forget a Boeing 727. I'd hate going through airport security every night just to go home.
Give me a type 44 TARDIS, with a working chameleon circuit. It woudl work with any decor.

Not a Precedent! This is not a precedent! This is from a judge, not an appeals court. If it was from an appeals court, it would have precedential value.

Legal AdviceIf this was legal advice an invoice would have been attached.

Solution for discounted cokes!Use a CO2 fire extinguisher. That should cool it down enough to get it almost free.

Tell that Klingon battle cruiser what? And when the Klingon battle cruiser tells you it's not your land and the deed is worthless, what will your reply be?

Real programming - real programmers???When they did this survey, did they look at the quality of the programmers and their projects?
Are the VB programs generally quick and dirty applications written for a demo or proof of concept? Are the people who are doing these VB not really programmers, but maybe a QA person or a technician writting a quick application that they need?
-
Fat chance!!!MS probably patented this and only will allow it to be used with Microsoft operating systems.
If you doubt this, look at the source code licenses that they provide for MFC.
I'd want an OS/2 driver in addition to a Linux driver.
-
Not everyone???What do you mean hackers and programmers liking leggos???
Doesn't everyone love leggos?
-
No????I have not read the patent. But you can now rent on-line now. You can also rent by phone. When you pick up the car, they scan the car, take the miles, and it is transmitted by radio network. Then your receipt is printed, from data that is received over the radio network, from the belt-clip unit.
You must define on-line. The agents who take the information on the phone are on-line. The agents who scan the car are on-line.
If AVIS/Budge/ect. had patented this, they can sue for patent infringement by Amazon. At the very least, this might be considered prior art that could invalidate the Amazon patent.
-
Budget and Avis will sue Amazon???When I rented a car, I gave them my name and credit card when I picked up the car. They asked if I wanted to use the same card, name, etc. to pay when I dropped off the car.
Ya think that they give me a free rental cars for life, if I they make money from suing Amazon???

Wireless networking for cars?Does that mean that there will be wireless networking between cars for traffic control?
That will allow telemetry data to be transmitted between cars. If the driver in front of you hits the brakes, your car can brake before you realize the need....Automatic caravans....digital CB radio.....Route/Alternate route allocation by amount of traffic and requests to travel between points

No! No! No!Turning a bumblebee into an elephant by removing wings and adding trunk???
The advantage of the Palm is that it starts up instantly and have compact apps.
When you add a hard drive, it adds to boot time and makes it fragile!
What will happen is the programs will become slow and bloated (think MS Office).

Why not use a Melissa varient? One could write a melissa variant that would do a world wide coordinated attack. This would increase the number of pipes that the attack would come through. The limiting factor would be the size of the victims pipe.
I am not recommending doing this! This is only for challege of figuring it out!

Forget color!I'd rather have a faster processor and a JVM than color.

The Palm is an extension of the desktop! The palm is designed to be sync'd with a desktop system.
It's a shame that they only provide to Winblows software for the desktop.
-
Not enough for service packs. You might be able to get Office 2k and Win2k on it, but once you add a service pack or two it won't fit anymore. Of course Microsoft will tell us, that the produict is good and doesn't need any service packs.

Insider vs. common knowledgeWhen an exec sells shares, they muyst file (or at least in the US). This filing is public.
This does not mean that a company is having a problem when an exec sells stocks. This might be a sale to buy a house, pay a divorce settlement, or diversify. There are newsletters that watch these filings and tell you to buy/sell based on them.
When a company have this type of problem, the accusations of insider trading flys. Though I am not a fan of Mattel, I could not believe some of the accusations flying on the Yahoo board.

Free Java e-mail clientThere is a free Java email client. It is JStreet mailer. It was a commercial product that the publisher made free (since they could not handle supporting it). There is a group that has been upgrading/fixing the product.
I have the software and information on this my website with the serial numbers.

Lawsuits are being used to censor.Mattel is using lawsuits to censor. I found a site a while ago where a student put up Barbie jokes and Mattel threatened action.
Mattel, and originally TLC, are trying to silence my complaints of their violating employment laws and common decency.
It is one thing to protect one's trademark. It is entirely another to squelch any commentary, analysis, critism, or satire.

Have to wear a suit, must work 9 to 5????When I dropped out of college in 1982, my aunt told me that without a degree:
- I would have to wear a suit and tie everyday.
- Work 9 to 5 (the ones during the day).
- Get paid minimum wage.
In the late 80s, people said that programmers would be put out of work with all the new application generators. Why pay a programmer to write a program when I user can just paint a program.
Now computers will be programming themself???
Companies are claiming that there is such a programmer shortage, so that that the visa limits must be increased. Many employers will say, if you don't have X number of years of XXX, then we can't even look at you. In 1988 I was called by a headhunter looking for someone with more than 10 years of DOS programming experience.
It's always going to change and people will keep saying this sort of thing all the time.

Here is how to handle the friends IPO!Make the IPO requirement some Linux knowledge. You must configure a server including IP chains and routing.
This will keep out the people who think that Windows Certification has value.

This is because of lawyers! The day before yesterday I sent my lawyer a file containing about 380 pages of email. This is because the lawyers from Mattel/TLC demanded all communications regarding my web site.
This is a lawsuit (actually countersuit) claiming that I libeled them. The website contains the information about the lawsuit.
Why don't you decide for youself?

Not new type of publishing, only the $$$The community publishing aspect is not new. The $$$ aspect is! The howtos are community published. Bruce Eckel has been doing this for a while with his books (Thinking in C++, Think in Java). He puts the early version up and people send in changes. After publication, he puts the book online.
Currently there are early versions of the second editions of both books online. He has a form for comments on these.
P.S. Please send my check to:

I am being sued for libel!Mattel / The Learning Company / Microsystems Software is suing me for libel based on my words on the web!
They are mainly focusing on my website but in discovery they also pointed to some postings that I made to yahoo and Prairielaw.
Even after they filed their countersuit, I have not stopped! What I have posted is either true or opinions that any reasonable person would agree with based on the facts. The underlying facts are posted on the site.
I would say these things to their face (and did to under oath in depositions). I have had to provide them with more than 200 pages of emails related to the site.

Corporations want censorship. If you complain about the behaviour of a corporation, they want it censored!
When I posted the facts behind my upcomming lawsuit on my website, I was called a disgruntled employee. When I filed a lawsuit (based on those facts) over a year later, their filed a libel suit.
Even though there was a judgment for $125,000 entered against them (Mattel, who acquired the defendants), they still try to persecute me with their counterclaim. The only reason they persue this counterclaim is to extract a confidentiality agreement so as the public will not find out about their wrongdoings (mostly by the acquired companies, but now by them too).
Ain't it swell?

It is really necessary!Do I really need to distribute two versions of an application to make it usable for Linux? I would hope not. I am not suggesting at write once, run anywhere of Java (though that is an idea too).
The idea is that it should run on either, cuts down on the number of potential bugs that happen from two different codesets. I know about #if, but it is still seperate code.
Now if there was a very thin abstraction layer....hmmmmmm....that's an idea.
:) -
Say it aint so!!!I can't begin to immagine how bloated that Office will become.
If MS-office has this number of bugs in a 650mb CD, I'd need a 64bit processor to count the number of bugs on a 150gb platter.
Injured software engineer wins against Mattel! Ain't that swell.

Re:motives?I don't doubt their motives. It's to make money.
These are the same people who claim that software engineers spend a majority of the time "looking at the screen and hitting a singular key."
Mattel/TLC have claimed to support workers rights, but have a judgment against them that says otherwise.

Bad programming classesThe type of class, "here is your set of solutions, now fit it to your problem" is the wrong way to teach. I have taken programming classes where an instructor has tried to shoehorn the soloution to a problem into a predefined box. One even said, "It's not in the book."
The proper way is to teach problem solving. Then teach, how to choose the correct tool(s) for the problem. And then, how to apply those tools. And don't forget a course on debugging (but I don't need that

Check this site.I have been through an RSI. My site has quite a bit of information about RSIs, treatments.
Surgery should be the last resort. There are many alternatives, acupuncture, laser, cortisone, rest. Even if you have surgery, it may come back.
Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I go like this."
Doctor: "So don't go like that."
