Re:kudos
So pick up one of these and walk around with it. It doesn't work well unless the levels are ready to kill you, but it certainly freaks people out.

Re: San Bernadino all over again
Please tell me why the style of gun is important in this case, and not why a documented deranged and unstable person was able to buy any style of gun at all.
ANY gun could have been used in that tragedy, but it's interesting that everyone wants to focus on a particular semi-auto rifle with a vertical magazine because of the way it looks, and not the way it functions.
Do you know how much more damage this asshole could have done if he chose an auto-loader shotgun that can use 25-round drum magazines instead?
Yet, nobody is out there yelling and screaming about that configuration. It's always "assault weapons" whatever that means - there is no actual definition for that term.
Let's fix the system that allows someone that was documented to be mentally unstable and violent from being able to get a gun, before we start limiting the freedoms of people that already follow the law.

Re:I'm just waiting for....
AR 15s have 50 shot and 100 shot magazines.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?...22 seconds for 30 on target shots with targets much smaller than a human torso.

Re:Why bother.
Holes are known for their efficiency at losing heat. If frostbite is a concern do not poke holes in your insulation!

Re:what is a "gun safe"?
I actually didn't do the math on what I have, and didn't really want to post the real value.
Here's a purchase I made last year from Sportsman's Guide.
3) 420 rds.
.223 (5.56x45 mm) 62 - gr. M855 Ammo with Can (Product: WX2-206721)
Quantity: 1, Unit Price: $161.47, Total Price: $161.47The current price is a little bit more, but not bad.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=862719I definitely prefer to buy in bulk. It's a lot cheaper than buying a box here, and a box there. Well, unless you go to a retail store and they just multiply the per-box price, by the number in the case. If I had a bit of spare cash, I'd have a few thousand extra rounds.
I just consolidated down part of my collection, to use more common ammo. I'm sticking with 5.56x45 NATO,
.45 ACP, and .30-06.I want to get an AR-10 also, so that'd be one more ammo (7.62x51 NATO), but worth it. Practically though, I need to move first, to somewhere with enough land where I can target shoot at the house. I'd want an long shooting area, to practice at the far extent of the weapon's ability. I don't know of any good outdoor ranges near me, so I'm SOL at the moment. I can get a nice tight group with the AR-15 (5.56 NATO), at the far extent of the indoor rifle ranges. I usually put the target all the way out, so the bottom is just touching the backstop.

Re:Already been done?
IIRC, The Red Jacket
.22 zombie gun used a 3D printed body on a metal receiver.http://www.gunsandammo.com/2012/04/19/the-ultimate-zombie-gun-red-jacket-zk-22-bullpup-rifle/
Rip off / clone of the Muzzelite 10/22 Bullpup drop in stock, though they did do some basic custom modifications like the charging handle (not particularly useful) and the solid trigger linkage (which is a nice touch)

Re:Can we knock these things out of the sky?
a high power rifle might give a chance up to maybe 250'
Check out the ballistic characteristics of a
.222 round topping a 50 V-Max cartidge. You'll be most cheered, I suspect. tl;dr? Still going 1471 fps at 500 yards (1500 feet.) Inexpensive round, inexpensive rifle. -
Re:Low-amp thermoelectric?
What? You mean like this?

Re:$385!?
Or the fact that after reading it you can buy them from here for far cheaper and does the same thing. his bottle is nothing more than a microfilter, it does not do any other removals. I can get a version of what I linked to for $190.00 Us that has a large active carbon block that will also remove arsenic and other kill you nasty chemicals that a silly micron filter will miss.
Those of us that do camping in the wild have owned items that are better and FAR cheaper than this fellow designed and is trying to sell for a price that is insane. -
Re:Military surplus
I'm in the US now, so I can't easily start selling 'em...
Best bet for mail order military surplus satchels in the US would probably be Sportsman's Guide. They have a few large ones, if that's too big there may be smaller available. Their selection changes from month to month.
Or, check the yellow pages for your local military surplus places. -

Re:Kalifornia Law?
If it's muzzleloading and uses black powder (IE, doesn't use self-contained cartridges), the federal legal restrictions are much more relaxed than modern breech-loading firearms that fire self-contained cartridges. For example, you can buy them inter-state without going through a dealer in your state. (Assuming no additional state laws) You can order some here, for example.
