(and it does a HECK of a LOT more than just blockout ads... & it's not paid off to NOT block ads like AdBlock is by default, PLUS, things like ClarityRay can't stop hosts, but it sure does AdBlock (which is also horribly inefficient in CPU + RAM usage as well vs. hosts, operating in a SLOWER cpu serviced layer, usermode, vs. hosts operating in kernelmode, AND, hosts operate LONG BEFORE browsers do, thus addons as well, making them redundant as well - AND addons bear tons more messagepassing weight, slowing browsers up...).

* It updates from 12 reputable sources in the security community, as to your question specifically - & you can "pick and choose" which of them you use each time you update...

* Yes, they've "gone down" @ times too... so MS doing the same isn't exactly some event, it part of what you get with distributed loads systems - added complexity = more room for breakdown (with even single parts failing, the chain snaps).

(It's part of why I think the web's complexity, along with some bad ideas in scripting languages for browsers, is inherently overall, well... bad: Too many moving parts room for breakdown & failure, etc. (as well as avenues for attack + misuse)).

(OR by choices of ones you prefer to use only).

Its sources don't block hughpickens.com. In fact, it's not even in the hosts file his program creates, blocked or otherwise.I've used his host file program here http://start64.com/index.php?o... for about 2 years now for creating my initial custom hosts file and then using it for updating my hosts file daily with it. I go faster since I don't see ads and I am secured against known malicious sites too. I can't complain especially when it's free, and works great!
