Re:A small review
He said the game engine for STO operates inefficiently. This is evident on any moderate/mid range graphics card (which meets the minimum specs of the game http://www.startrekonline.com/node/494), especially in space situations where there is heavy use of nebulae and other spacial landscapes, such as asteroids or rings and, ironically, on maps where there is almost no background at all -- on computers that can operate most other MMOs just fine.
It's working fine for me at minimum settings. Maybe you're just running it with too high settings.
Speaking of the system requirements I mentioned above, I must seriously ask you what kind of *netbook* you have where STO "runs really decently."
It's an Acer Aspire One 521
CPU: AMD processor V105 (1.2GHz)
Memory: 1GiB DDR3 Memory
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bitI also have the over head of Aero, full disk encryption and Avast Internet Security. Windows Experience Index ranks the system as a 2.5 because of "calculations per second".
Maybe you should ask yourself if you've actually played this game before questioning whether others have.
Here is my main character in STO:

Well I know what it means for me
I know how it will work for me a 32 year old man who has never used his real name, even on his Facebook profile. I'm not going to keep playing WOW on the weekends to keep in contact with old friends. We have moved on mostly to Star Trek Online, it does not have the massive part down quite yet as the die hards can blow through the game in a few weeks but for anyone with a job it has the community, maturity and game play that makes it a highly enjoyable experience for my long term gaming group of 6 people. We all bought lifetime subs when it came out and we will be there when the last whir of the server fans die in the datacenter.

Re:They Just Don't Get It...
Star Trek: A Final Unity was probably the best Star Trek game ever released. Minimal combat, which could be avoided based on your actions, and many missions and away teams, just like on the show. I hope the new Star Trek Online does it justice.
Final Unity also had a pretty cool combat interface if you were inclined to try and manage it all yourself instead of letting Worf do it for you. It was fairly overwhelming but actually seemed representative of what you'd expect space combat in the TNG universe to look like. There were a few battles that you couldn't avoid in the storyline as I recall -- one or two with the Romulans (one of which was painfully easy to win because it was with a "modified" warbird that sacrificed weaponry for speed) and one with the super aliens. That one was pretty hard to win and you usually wind up retreating or losing. I did beat it a few times, which lead to a lot of chest thumping on my part
;)I need to dig that game back out some day and go through it again. I wonder if it will run in Dosbox?

Star Trek XI?
Isn't that going to be Star Trek Online? Or am I confusing it with some other sequel?
