The Moon or Mars would be better in the short term, especially for trial and error. If something goes wrong, we're far closer and more able to do something and learn from it.

All of these articles about Apple's supply chain seem to ignore one fact: Apple's aren't the only products made in these factories.
Want to boycott horrific working conditions? Stop buying everything. Even Made in America products have parts or raw materials from overseas sweatshops. Electricity in the United States is typically powered by coal, which routinely ignores safety regulations.
The problem isn't Apple. The problem is lax governmental regulation that allows this to happen. Want to stop Apple from using sweatshops? Want to stop Google and Facebook from tracking your every move? Make it illegal, and enforce the damned law.
When the Obama Administration claims the right to ASSASSINATE CITIZENS without due process, I'm not surprised that a little thing like blocking websites doesn't merit due process either.
Microsoft, why don't you just write some QUALITY software for the iPad instead of trying to go head on in competition? That way, the more iPads Apple sells, the more software you sell. It's win-win.
I wonder about this sometimes. I think Microsoft needs to remember it's a software company, not a hardware company. Sell Office, sell Windows, create application software for all platforms. Otherwise you have Zune.

That's kind of the whole point. Jobs admits that Apple has a closed system, when Adobe is claiming theirs is open. When he talks about open, he's referring to HTML5/CSS/JavaScript, which you DO NOT need to submit to the app store.
Every time news like this comes out, the Western companies act all shocked. OF COURSE they're working in crappy conditions for low pay - how else do they make products so cheaply?

I think this is another case where the media turn something that might be good: increased understanding of how obesity works, into something bad: telling obese people that they have no control over their behaviour, fueling the "it's no my fault, I have a serious illness" justification for doing nothing to help themselves.

Like most emergency powers, it requires the President to report to Congress within 48 hours.
It doesn't seem, though, to give Congress power to stop the emergency action if it feels that it's not really an emergency.

But eating junk food produces a high, a euphoric feeling sometimes. I suppose that's why some foods are called "comfort food".
I can't compare to drug addiction, because I've never experienced that, but a high is definitely present.
Sometimes, with my tinfoil hat on, I've wondered if Taco Bell was slipping something addictive into the food that makes me keep coming back.
