Re:Why capture CO2?
I think you have a very good point but careful planning is hard. In a meeting I was at with Steny Hoyer's Distric Director http://events.stepitup2007.org/reports/472 the big news was the the task force in the house was feeling that meeting it's July 4 deadline would be pretty hard.
On the other hand, shifting to renewable energy is probably cheaper than trying to sequester CO2 from fossil fuels so what this buys us really is insurance against the chance that we've already passed a tipping point towards positive feedback or will do so before we can bring emissions under control. This kind of technology might be able to keep up with natural sources of carbon released owing to warming soon enough to stop that release and avoid a runaway.
We don't know if we are in that situation or not. Lackner's big thinking could be of huge importance.

Re:This depends
Same here. You might want to look at http://stepitup2007.org/ to see how our conception of stratigic interest might be changing in a way that is more aligned with your way of thinking.

Re:I'm hardly the only one...
Joining in name calling does not make it better though. Gore certainly caveats that no one hurricane can be attributed to global warming so the question is are Gray's cycles overlaid by the effects of warming? The data are begining to look convincing that this is the case http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/02/01/europe/
E U-GEN-France-Climate-Change-Hurricanes.php. Now, we could call Gore prescient and Gray out of touch or something but so long as we are entertaining the notion that the question is not settled, our bad manners are also less than helpful on making progress since they add to prejudice.
Most if not all Step it Up http://stepitup2007.org/ event will be followed up with meetings with representatives so you may have a good chance to get involved there. I hope the packing goes smoothly. Perhaps the move gets you out of the inversion?
Being more persuaded, I do use strong language myself http://mdsolar.blogspot.com/. -
Re:Uh, no.
Hummm... First you claim that the debate is not settled, then you say one side is alarmist. This is clearly ad hominem but more importantly is is not logical. If you are reserving judgement, as you claim, you have no reason to know if Gore is alarmist or correct in every particular.
If there is a chance that he may be correct, then you might want to do something about it. This Saturday, April 14, there will be 13 Step It Up 2007 actions in Utah http://events.stepitup2007.org/events/search/state /UT. Pick one to suit your taste and get together with folks who will help you solve your problem.

Re:Score..
Running TV adverts... bad idea. Producing a show/film about it... better idea. It seems to have marginally worked for Al Gore. His "climate change" agenda is starting to pick up... and he has started this website to gather a grass-roots movement.
In addition to "Incovenient Truth", there is "Loose Change" which discusses the 9/11 attacks.
On the other hand... if you really want to see transparent voting become a reality, head over to the Electronic Voting Machine project which is sponsored by the Open Voting Consortium and contribute.
Note: I am not affiliated with the Open Voting Consortium, and simply searched for "open source voting machine" in Google to give you an idea. I have no idea if they have a grounded ideology towards implementing transparent voting, but they are hosted on SourceForge... so that gives them a bit of street cred. -

ExxonMobil is definitely a bad actor but a lot of boycotts center on human rights violations associated with the oil industry rather than on PR or profits.
Something more direct is to work for a cut in emissions. http://stepitup2007.org/ is one way to do this by getting together on April 14.
