Re:/tin hat
Notice all the Nutrasweet bashing going on among health gurus over the last couple of years. It was the perfect sweetener, now it causes everything from headaches to severe thunderstorms.
That bashing's been going on since soon after the product hit the market. I think the patent expiring is why you're hearing more about it because there isn't anyone to "stifle" the truth anymore. The headaches are actually caused by brain lesions. But, those aren't the worst part, the blindness is what really gets you. (For the tin hatters out there) -
Re:What was interesting
I love it when people crib from sources and don't attribute them.
Plagarize this, beyotch
http://www.sumeria.net/politics/usa.html
Originally from "Rogue Nation" by William Blum.
I also love how there's a biting qualifier to each entry:
"Killed Defenseless Indians"
"Killed War Veterans"
"Returned Dictator to power"
No bias there, eh?
I submit that the US is in good company here... take a look at the UN web http://www.un.org/Depts/dpko/dpko/index.asp site, and do a little research. Figure out which contries have seen UN "occupation" and "regime change" and ask yourself if the people in those countries are any better off because of it.
You'd be interested to see that the UN's involvement in peace keeping efforts have regularly grown in magnitude (in sizes of forces deployed); yet have infrequently solved the crises that they are supposedly there to address.
They frequently leave these places in worse ways then they found them, yet no one shouts that they "Hate Kofi" and that he's an idiot.
You big bean-eatin double-standard-havin' goal-post-moving whiners. -
Crack, what crack... Oh!!! That Crack... not ours.
Not only that, but the CIA dumped lost of Cocaine into, you guess it, south central L.A. Of course, they themselves denied everything.

Hemp
"I have been wondering how difficult it will be to get by without all the cheap plastics that we have today."
Hemp can be used for plastic. In fact hemp can be used for pretty much everything oil can be, including a cleaner burning, renewable fuel source. It's also great for paper, fabrics, and thousands of other uses. Popular Mechanics estimated 25,000 product uses for it back in 1938.
Banning hemp because of marijuana is as stupid as banning barley and oats during prohibition would've been. It's precisely because hemp is so useful (and threatens the profits of powerful people.. like oil and timber barons) that it was unfairly demonized and outlawed (with precisely zero medical or scientific basis) in the 30's, right after a means to mass-process it was developed. The resource barons killed the hemp industry in its infancy. Thankfully, it appears to coming back in some places, although certain powerful people whose family is in bed with oil interests don't want it to... -
Ideology Good
(Disclaimer: I'm a Texan, so my opinion counts -1 here, but y'all get to hear, er, read it anyway)
I would vote for your ideology in an instant. I would vote for your youthful perspective. I would vote for your lack of experience. I would vote for you simply because you don't pretend to know all of the answers. (That's 4 votes, if you're counting). And you'd get my vote for "best implementation of a candidate's slogan", too.
Especially in this circumstance, it seems that the power vacuum that will be created needs all of these traits to allow the evolutionary changes that will FIX the state. (We all think California is screwed up, but you seem OK.)
Pot, yes; immigration, OK; right wing politics, Reefer Madness
Stick to your ideals.
When you run for President, I'll be there, but you have to wait until 35! -
Re:well...
A very large amount of funding for 'Black Projects' comes from CIA Cocaine and Heroin smuggling which has been going on for decades.

http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/pandora/blac ks-targeted.html"
These are just the first three links from a google search on 'CIA Cocaine'. There is tons of evidence from it.
Download or buy "The Truth and Lies of 9-11" which is a lecture/speech by Mike Ruppert for much of the info. He's an ex LAPD Drug Squad officer who has been trying to expose the multi billion dollar drug smuggling activities of the CIA and related organisations.
Wake up, your government is *lying* you you America. -
Secrecy orders and eminent domain
While I wouldn't put much stock in a Die Hard-type movie as a good source, the government can stop a patent from issuing, or take it outright. Methods include secrecy orders (seals a patent application for N years) or eminent domain (where the government takes property, but must compensate the owner.)

And if you thought it was a lone gunman
that killed Kennedy. Think again.

Re:ResearchCarter has stated he had reports that Reagan/Bush officials were meeting with the Iranians to undermine release of the hostages.
Former Iranian president Bani-Sadr admitted that a deal was worked out with Reagan/Bush not to release the hostages before the elections (see this among other sources).
So we have an instance of yet another election being rigged by the Republican party.

Re:I'd say,,,
You mean this Poindexter? The only one to do jail time for Iran-Contra? BTW, his conviction wasn't overturned in a court of law, he (and Ollie North et al) were pardoned by GHW Bush. So that means he was still guilty. The CIA (and Mossad, and probably most other "intelligence" organizations) routinely deal drugs to raise money for other operations - it wasn't limited to Iran-Contra.
As far as the CIA in the drug trafficking business, there have been plenty of links, including a major series in the San Jose Mercury News in the late 1990's, also this one. Further, the www.copvcia.com website is run by a former LAPD narc who saw it all from the inside. -
Why Hemp is Banned"I still don't understand why the government isn't looking into this (and corn) as a means to produce energy, it would be in everyone's best interest"
Nope, it wouldn't be in the oil industry's best interests. Guess what the Bush family has been heavily into for decades? Hint: They're from Texas. And lookee.... the Bush family is back in power, and .. SURPRISE! The War on Hemp has been stepped up again.
Hemp is outlawed because it would compete with (maybe destroy) the oil and timber industries. In the mid thirties, a machine was invented which made Hemp cultivation on an industrial scale possible, which was poised to launch a new Hemp industry. It was promptly buried and outlawed by oil and timber moguls. It has nothing to do with Marijuana usage, this is just the scapegoat.. the paper tiger... what they used to stir up public support and panic 60 years ago to get the prohibition passed, and what they've been using ever since to pull the wool over our eyes.
This is an excellent paper on the subject, allow me to quote some passages:
"The origin of the present Marijuana Prohibition can be traced back to passage of the Marijuana Tax Act by Congress in 1937. This bill was written by U.S. Treasury Department officials who claimed that Marijuana posed an unreasonable threat to society, and that the world would be a better, safer place to live and raise children in without it.
Today, over 50 years later, we can see that this policy is directly responsible for creating our present addiction to Oil and its Petrochemical derivatives, the domination of our economy, marketplace and the American political process by a few major industries, and the rampant destruction of the Environment all over the world, all in the name of Corporate Profit.
...
Marijuana Prohibition has not protected anyone. The established and well-documented deadly side-effects of Petrochemical by-products, processes and toxic waste fill literally thousands of scientific journals, textbooks and official government reports, while the proclaimed hazards of Marijuana smoking are still a matter of professional speculation and debate. Americans have died, and others are still at risk in Iraq to protect a source of foreign Oil that we need only because American farmers are not allowed to grow Cannabis Hemp for the production of alternative fuel.
...
The Marijuana Tax Act was prepared during two years of secret meetings, held by Treasury Department officials between 1935 and 1937. At no time was the American Medical Association consulted for an opinion on the health effects of Marijuana smoking and were not even informed that the meetings were taking place.
No expert medical or scientific evidence was introduced to establish that Marijuana represented a threat to its users or to society. Anslinger's testimony consisted mainly of reading sensational articles from tabloids which, for years, had fanned the flames of "Reefer Madness" to sell more newspapers.
...
Dr. William C. Woodward, who represented the AMA during the hearings, dismissed Anslinger's testimony as being "factually inaccurate" and complained that the AMA had not been consulted earlier. Woodward stated for the record that the AMA opposed passage of the Marijuana Tax Act and would have done so earlier but the medical community was not aware "until two days" before the hearings that the "killer weed from Mexico" that the Government was planning to outlaw was actually Cannabis, which had been safely prescribed by doctors for over 100 years.
When Senator Prentiss M. Brown, chairman of the subcommittee, asked "what dangers, if any, does this bill have for persons engaged in the legitimate uses of the Hemp plant?" Anslinger replied "I would say that they are not only amply protected under this Act, but that they can go ahead and raise Hemp just as they have always done it." This assurance was also given by C.M. Hester, Assistant General Counsel for the Treasury Department, who testified for the record that "the production and sale of Hemp and its products for industrial purposes will not be adversely affected by this bill."
If Hemp is really outlawed because of the possible misuse of Marijuana, then oil should be outlawed because of molotov cocktails, not to mention the thousands of other dangerous applications of gasoline. -
Re:I want hemp books! Why is this modded as Funny? Should be insightful. Hemp was primarily villified and made illegal by an industrial conpiracy to protect monopolistic oil and wood interests.
"Hemp is the standard fiber of the world. It has great tensile strength and durability...and can be used to produce 25,000 products, ranging from dynamite to Cellophane.
"The natural materials in Hemp make it an economical source of pulp for any grade of paper manufactured, and the high percentage of alpha cellulose promises an unlimited supply of raw material for the thousands of cellulose (plastic) products our chemists have developed.
"All of these products, now imported, can be produced from home-grown Hemp. Fish nets, bow strings, canvas, strong rope, overalls, damask tablecloths, fine linen garments, towels, bed linen and thousands of other everyday items can be grown on American farms...all of this income can be made available to Americans."
"The paper industry offers even greater possibilities. As an industry, it amounts to over $1,000,000,000 a year, and of that, eighty percent is imported. But Hemp will produce every grade of paper, and government figures estimate that 10,000 acres devoted to Hemp will produce as much paper as 40,000 acres of average (timber) pulp land."
- Popular Mechanics, February 1938
(Taken from here)
Hemp can be used to replace wood pulp paper, and we're cutting down our planet's forests at a suicidal rate. Hemp can be used as a domestically produced, renewable fuel, and yet we fight wars over foreign oil and pollute the atmosphere with it. -
Presidential Authority in wartime
Taken from Here.
This nation (The U.S.) has been gearing up for internal problems for many years.
Hundreds of Presidential Executive Orders have been issued to allow emergency powers under any type of crisis - perceived or real. A Presidential Executive Order, whether Constitutional or not, becomes law simply by its publication in the Federal Registry, bypassing Congress completely. Here are just a few Executive Orders that would suspend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These Executive Orders have been on record for nearly 30 years and could be enacted by the simple stroke of a presidential pen:
PEO10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.
PEO10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.
PEO10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.
PEO10998 allows the government to take control of all food sources and farms.
PEO11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.
PEO11001 allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions.
PEO11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons.
PEO11003 allows the government to seize control of all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.
PEO11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations.
PEO11005 allows the government to take control of railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities.
PEO11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.
PEO11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President.
Without Congressional approval, the President now has the power to transfer whole populations to any part of the country, the power to suspend the Press and to enforce a national registration of all persons. The President, in essence, has dictatorial powers never provided to him under the Constitution. The President has the power to suspend the Bill of Rights in any real or perceived emergency. Unlike Lincoln or Roosevelt, these powers are not derived from any wartime need, but from *any* crisis-- domestic or foreign, hostile or economic.
Scary, huh? -

Re:Dangerous Radical ThinkingSeeing as how the 104th congress overwhelmingly voted down an amendment to HR666 (the aptly numbered Exclusionary Reform Act of 95) that was, word for word, the 4th amendment; you are undoubtably correct. A good site with the relevant excerpts from the debate is here.

Re:Nazis and CorporationsSee also, in support:
An Open Letter to All Americans - Shadow of the Swastika - (Don't be fooled by the subtitle on the web page - it's not just about Hemp.) "A list of the corporations named include Du Pont, Standard Oil, and General Motors, all of which were proven to be conspiring with Nazi industrial cartels to eliminate competition world-wide and divide among themselves the Earth's industrial resources and commercial markets, for profitable exploitation. "
The Drug Story - Earth-shattering revelations about drugs and the sinister Rockefeller empire.
Yes, I know 99% of
/. readers will dismiss this all as consipiracy-theory nonsense. But conspiracies and cartels are not impossible - they have existed, and just because a theory is a conspiracy theory is no reason, in and of itself, to reject it out of hand.
