Joystick version?
Does this include the newest joystick routines (version 2.1 I think)?
Mainly this stuff: http://www.suse.cz/development/input/
If not it'd be good to see them appear in a kernel some time soon

Re:USB???
I doubt Corel ported it themselves. Much more likely is that they just used the usb backport by Vojtech Pavlik:

Re:15 days?
The support in the 2.2.x kernels is very basic. You'll be better of with a backport of the 2.3.x kernel code:
Usb backport

There's a near full backport of the usb subsystem to 2.2.x, actually. Try www.suse.cz/development/usb-backport/ for a patch to update 2.2.14 to 2.3.39's usb stuff. not sure how solid it is, as i haven't tested it yet, and it's better to have the usb stuff in a "stock" kernel than depending on patches, but maybe this might make it into 2.2 upon release of 2.4? or am I just dreaming again? :)

It's all about Vojtech Pavlik (joystick/input)
Working like crazy on USB, and also providing awesome joystick drivers that support all major game consoles joysticks (except dreamcast)... and the new input layer that will clean up the whole input layer once and for all.

Status of Linux USB
USB is up and running just fine in the 2.3.x series of kernels.
There is even a backport of the USB stack into 2.2.12 right here
Also check out the USB HowTO for getting started.
