A good point, very well said. The USA's educational system is doubleplusfar from perfect, but I firmly believe that if someone doesn't want to learn, no environment will help. If they do, they'll pick it up.
My brother's ex-wife a brilliant engineer, thou I haven't had the pleasure (or horror, sometimes?) of meeting as many engineers as I could've. She's one of 3 or 4 people I've been able to have a honest, detailed, tech-type conversations with. And I'm fairly sure she never had special classes to learn, beyond what she chose to sign up for in collage and such.
With how long my (probably typical) smartphone battery lasts, it wouldn't be too odd for it to be off while I'm driving sometimes. And with my aggressive cornering some days, that could be a good thing.
I'd be surprised if Voyager's source code was much more then reading sensors and transmitting that data. Considering how little computing power the Voyager and similar era probes have, it likely had to be simple. The specs on the instruments that gather that data might be more interesting.
I wish comcast made ipv6 available if you ask, or at least give you a timeline of when it might be. I have a ipv6 capable router (I think, I haven't tried a 4to6 tunnel or anything to test it). But my modem isn't ipv6 capable, and the last time I tried to get past that they only gave me a faster modem - with a built in horrible router and AP. both of which got disabled in minutes. I'm not sure if it's their equipment supplier(s) or comcast themselves to blame for my lack of ipv6, but from this customer point of view it's comcast's fault either way.
As a cyclist and well trained driver (more licenses and drivers training/saftey courses then average, in the USA at least) I don't think helmets will help/hurt much. I don't wear a helmet except for events/races(lots of close cyclist make me nervous, and odds of an accident likely go up) and while I'm sure a helmet would help if a car hit a cyclist, I'm betting it'll cause lots of damage, helmet or no. No, the problem in my town is it seems cars *try* to cause bike wrecks. Shouting, tossing things at me and my two wheels, or just not watching for cars, never mind less visible bicycles come to mind for reasons why. It doesn't matter that I try to avoid cars, do everything to stay out of busy traffic, drivers still do those very annoying, dangerous things. That's not to say I haven't done stupid things with cars and bikes, I make mistakes like everyone. But if drivers and cyclists try for safety and to share the roads, it'll help alot more then helmets ever could.
(*I'm sure there's speeds/circumstances/accidents where helmets make all the difference, but it's likely a very tiny percent.)
I know that more work feeling, but for me it was TI-83's (I think) and I rarely used the programs I wrote. I was quicker doing most work(80%) in my head and using paper to make sure it looked correct. So why did I write the programs at all? Boredom, really. It was also a good way to make sure I really understood formulas - if the calculator was wrong, I made a mistake or typo.
Depends on the bike, I guess. Something bare-frame, Harley-Davidson stylish (more open frame type) would be harder to hide stuff on. Something like a Goldwing 1500/1800 or any plastic-paneled type bike, you could try to hide alot more in there.
The hf sound theory is a good possibility, speaking from personal experience. I can hear the high pitch buzz from crt's (probably the transformer in them?) and similiar sounds, but tv buzz is the only source I can always pinpoint. Probably because my tv doesn't move. Not sure the exact frequency of the buzzing, never was good at figuring exact khz stuff by ear.
And for the record, it doesn't cause me any annoyance and I don't want to sue anybody over it.
Gone, ever since I patented Attorney 2.0, now with more paperwork and a "What you see is what you Sue" interface. You don't even want to know the hoops you need to jump through to use Attorney 2.0...
Better yet, don't ban english, change it. About 10 revisions of the language should be good enough to make it so we can't misunderstand words and they mean just what Big Brother wants them to mean... sounds like a DoublePlusGood answer to me.
Thou I must admit I don't really care if pictures of me got out. What you'd see is a lot of work on speakers, trying to patch in outboard sound processing gear, altogether too many Behringer speakers, a boring office, and quite possibly me banging my head against walls when nobody tells me anything and changes up the program all the time. Yes, pro audio can be unfun sometimes:)
Thou, with a class renunion coming up soon, I'm betting there are some pictures I won't want out real soon now:)
It was gorillas, and I remember it because I randomized the explosions - from nothing to nuclear bananas. Had friends cringe when they took a shot in that game, never knew how much of the city you'd have left afterwards.. Oh yea, the banana speed was random to a max of about mach 2 if memory serves. Fun game after that, i must say:)
I'll agree to that, not because of moving a grand harp - but 100-160 lbs (at least, sometimes more) of support gear for a concert for said harp. I do pro audio work, and I'd hate to haul even a single bass cabinet on a bus. But off work, sure, I'd take public transit if it ran between cities in central california.
Saw one post on here that said it's not too tough, and website is dead. So my question is while it'd be nice to have this type jacket for extended (2 days+) outdoor use, is it tough enough to survive that? If so, great for keeping a cell phone or portable radio charged for emergencies. If not, seems worthless as most devices will go about 8 hours or more w/o charge and most people get to outlets within that time...
1) X IS configured correctly. GPM is not running. If I use ps/2 instead of imps/2 in X config file, no wheel but rest of mouse works.
2) I searched and found 90% of the links posted. The switching VT's works sometimes - but if one os can handle it on the same hardware w/ no special work, it tells it is possible for it to work everywhere, and it's some kind of driver/sync issue. If that makes any sense.
3) To TheMeld - I'll try the button bit. As I mentioned, VT switching isn't so reliable.:)
4) Have tried mutiple mice. Logitech and MS mostly. same issues no matter what mouse I use.
5) Booting w/ linux machine active makes no difference. Mouse is still screwy even if I never switch away.
Reached the point where I'll write it up as slightly-defective kvm - was just curious to see what other people thought. Thanks all.
I know someone who has one of those - I saw it record dvd in realtime yesterday - seems cbr thou, as no matter what quality we set it to it only seemed to record 2 hrs of video to the dvd. Granted, we only read enough to set titles and make the thing record, but that's a 3 minute impression of the unit.
You've covered both ends of the spectrum, and thou I personally believe in your first, longer explaination, that if was invented anywhere it'd be instantly everywhere (or anywhen?) there's one basic fact missing here - as far as I know, we don't really understand time, just have theories. How can we really say it's impossible if we don't know what it really is or how it works? If we could see time, measure it objectivly from some point unaffected by time, etc, then we might have hard conclusions. Until then, saying possible or impossibe might be premature..
Well, not all, but seems part of catcus shield is just audio tracks, then data-session that plays under windows.. I have none of these cd's, anyone tried these things under cdparanoia to see if they read? Sounds like if you just ignore extra tracks that might contain false toc info, then you'd be ok.. linked article even says as much, that it's a feature in some (windows?) ripping programs to ignore the garbage designed to "protect" the data.. until everyone buys a new cd/dvd audio player, riaa and friends should just give up on copy protaction, it seems.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"
Not that it matters who I quote, or what anyone says. This and things much like it will likely get renewed, or they'll happen in secret.
I don't have any good solutions, but it doesn't have to mean I like the idiots in government or their idiotic decisions.

My lawn's grown old an died..
How low of an ID are we trying for here, again?

Either you got that, or go read 1984.
