Synertron micro boxes
Some are fanless that I use for linux boxes, some are rackmount with multiple motherboards per 1U case, and their prices are add-ons are cheaper than newegg.
Nope, don't work for 'em, just used their products for about 8 years now.

Re:Finally...oh no wait.
I saw Synertron at LinuxWorld Boston - http://www.synertrontech.com/products/embedded_co
m puting/twister/ec-twister.html Great case, but they're not set up as direct to consumer.
They have variations that do TV in/out and SPDIF.
From the site:
Twister case is a FANLESS solution for our motherboard. The material of the case is mainly ALUMINUM. The purpose of the Twister case is to cool off the processor without using the FAN because there is always the possibility of the failure of the FAN which will damage the processor and the system. Using VIA C3 processor, Twister can handle up to 1 GHz CPU The Biggest difference between Neo and Twister case is that Twister case is bigger, so it has space to add a PCI slot. -
Re:Openbrick
This seems expensive (300-400 euros).
How is the performance of the Geode CPU?
I've seen some VIA C3 boards with 3-4 Nics here.
They have a US Distributor here.
I talked to them in June; with case, motherboard w 4 RealTek nics and the fastest CPU it was $370.
Here is another one with 4 nics.
I'd be using it to run Astaro firewall, which is kind of a pig for CPU and RAM.
If you only need 1 NIC, LOTS of Mini-ITX VIA systems are available for under $200 with case, mb, CPU.
Their power consumption is supposed to be around 13watts + HD.

Where to buy an inexpensive X terminal
We're buying X terminals for $250 from Synertron Tech the American marketing arm of http://www.lex.com.tw. They have 128 Mb RAM, 3 10/100 Ethernet ports, an 800 Mhz fanless CPU and boot via PXE. Look up the 'Light' system and the rackmounted version of the same thing which costs about $275. You can boot your host with a micro hard drive, too.

Your Reward for reading
Your reward for reading all the way to the end of this old thread is this link to exactly what you are looking for.
You can either get a rackmount that is only 7" deep with a mini-itx motherboard or you can get a rackmount that is only 18" deep with two mini-itx motherboards. The prices are fantastic, too. -
Re:Suggestions for hardware?
Check out the LIGHT book size PC - can get it fanless, can use DOC or compact flash, has option of three Realtek 10/100 or two Intel 10/100 and one Intel 10/100/1000 ethernet ports.
I believe you can even get them with DSL modems or 802.11b wireless inside.
