Interesting
The best embedded development kit I've ever used is Embedded BoumOS, by Mike Bouma. Unfortunately he got pissed off with the increasing number of
/. trolls and crapflooders and no longer maintains it. A real shame. -

Popp writes in: Hi there I just wanted to give some information about something I read on your site. On the page about Mark Wallice, someone emailed to state that they thought that Mark Wallice had appeared in the gay adult film Route 69. I wanted to let you know that I watched that film quite recently and I am quite sure that Mark Wallice did not appear in that film. It seems true that the only gay adult film he ever appeared in was A Matter Of Size.

WAP is fantastic.I've got a Nokia 7110e and find it very useful. The three things I do the most are:
- Check my email (Talk21)
- Use ICQ (WapIcq)
- Get the football(soccer) scores (Football365)
I did use it to read
/. a lot, but that support seems to be broken now. (Who the hell do I have to complain to, or how do I help fix that, bearing in mind I know WML but not Perl?)The news the other day of Google's WAP search engine has also opened up the possibility of reading any HTML page, albeit on a limited display, which again adds a lot of functionality.
I personally think people expect too much from WAP. They forget that the bandwidth is extremely limited at the moment. For a GSM network, WAP is the optimal solution ffor information retrieval.
To answer the original poster, I'd recommend buying a decent IrDA-capable phones and using it with his Palm. I know a number of people who do this, and are very happy with the results. However, IrDA networks are hard to maintain while walking along the street.
By the way, you'd be amazed how smug I am about Europe being ahead of the US in the wireless field...
