World's Biggest Alarm Clock Shakes You Out of Bed
tugfoigel writes "Built by "Kevin" for a contest, this computer-controlled alarm clock is touted as the world's largest. To be more specific, he 'mounted a large air cylinder to the head of [his] bed and a valve, controlled by a computer, which [he programmed] to wake [him] up in the morning.'" -
Strangest iPod Cases Ever
David Primo writes "Techeblog has a great article on the strangest iPod cases ever. Pictures included. From the article: 'This might be the first iPod case that costs more than the player itself. The Louis Vuitton Classic iPod Cover by Takashi Murakami features peach natural calf leather lining, golden brass pieces, and a multicolor canvas.'" The military-grade case actually makes sense for people like me who keep letting their mp3 player fall on the floor, but able to withstand a mortar shell explosion might be overkill. -

David Primo writes "TechEBlog has an interesting article on a Tic-Tac-Toe-playing LEGO robot named WOPR — created by Bryan Bonahoom. It uses built-in sensors and a custom program to challenge humans. Video included. From the article: 'The NXT display also enables the inclusion of instructions to the user on resetting the robot. This allowed WOPR to run unattended.'" -

A Real Transformer?

NES Controller MP3 player hack
Skadet writes "Martin Kersch of Germany made great use of a boring Saturday afternoon by transforming an ordinary USB Stick and NES Controller into an MP3 Player (original German). He even hacked the buttons on the controller to work with the mp3 player, "Start" is On/Play, and the directional pad functions as the song changer/volume control. Do you remember those NES Controller Belt Buckles? They should integrate these MP3 Players into those things." -
Functional Paper V8 Engine
glitch0 writes "This V8 Engine made entirely out of paper with the exception of a few parts (motor, wires, etc.), is fully functional. It features many moving parts which include "a compound crankshaft, a rapid cooling fan, 8 rods, 8 pistons and a complex compound gearbox etc." The engine is powered by 2×1.5V D Batteries and weighs 2.98kg. From start to finish this model took one year to design and construct. There is even a D.I.Y. kit in the works that will be released shortly at the price of $85 USD. What comes next...a fully functional car made out of paper?"
