Re:In contrast
I would certainly hope that Deutsche Telekom DSL is cheaper than Baby Bell DSL. Germany (you) own 43% of it!
The KfW, a state owned bank, and the Federal Republic of Germany together own 37% of Deutsche Telekom (source).
Also, I'm no financial wizard, but it appears that DT is barely breaking even.
Deutsche Telekom had an EBITDA 4.9 billion Euros in Q1 2005, with a turnover of 14.4 billion Euros (source).
Please keep your facts straight. -

Re:Global coverage
Despite the fact that they do speak English, the Germans still dub non-German movies to German. It's one -- albeit small -- reason why I don't go the movies that often. The other reason being, hey downloading it costs nothing. So yeah, the German government with this dumb law is partly guilty why there are so many illegal downloads of movies.
And the Germans are pretty bad at keeping their language intact. In TV, magazines and the economy you hear a lot of dumb English phrases. Here's one I just made up "Bei diesen Problem weiss ich den Solution noch nicht. Ich muss es noch checken.". Look at the website of Deutsche Telekom; "WebEasy", "enjoyTarif"... oh well, I could rant all day. -
Re:Gut reaction
You know who T-Mobile is, don't you?
Journey to the website of the Deutsche Telecom and see if you see any similarities...... -
Re:Hello?
OK, to correct myself, T-Online is (as somebody else pointed out) only about 75% owned by Deutsche Telekom, the rest is publically traded...
Oh, and here is the link in the proper way. ;) -
Re:T-Online related to T-Mobile?
Does anyone know if these companies (T-Online and T-Mobile) are related?
Yepp. Both companies are part of Deutsche Telekom. (T-Mobile 100%, T-Online 75%).
See the Deutsche Telekom site for more info. -
Sueing for use of letters...
Never assume such things cannot happen. Actually, Deutsche Telekom (Germany's telecommunications monopolist) is sueing a small company (not even a competitor) for usage of the letter T.
They have been unsuccessful in sueing companies for usage of the color magenta in the past, though.
