Re:I wanna be...
Chewie's dad is named Itchy, his wife is named Molla, and his son is named Lumpy, according to the Star Wars Holiday Special -- a disowned piece of the Star Wars universe that aired on TV in 1978. It is so horrible, George Lucas has said that if he had time and a hammer, he would track down every bootleg copy of the special and smash it.

Favorite wookie?
I dunno
... my favorite wookie is Chewbacca's father, Itchy, who appeared in the Star Wars Holiday Special, along with Chewie's wife, Molla, and his son, Lumpy. There was also an appearance by Bea Arthur, but the word is that she was not actually playing a Wookie. -
No, no, 1000 times no!Ok, it's possible that I'm being trolled here but real world Japan is not the idyllic world it is portrayed as in anime. Here is just one article on it:
http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/9151/educat
e .htmlCorporal punishment is officially outlawed in Japanese schools. But reasearch does seem to indicate that it goes on quite a lot, and not just by the teachers. Far more deaths (many of them suicides) have come about as a result of student-to-student bullying, called iijime. Iijime is a serious problem in Japan. Just how serious depends alot on who you talk to, but the raw statistics on the number of iijime-related deaths do seem to indicate that it is worthy of attention. of course, iijime is not exactly sanctioned by school authorities, but they do very little to stop it, and arguably a lot to encourage it.
There have been articles on this in Japanese newspapers, the prime minister even hamfistedly addressed the issue. Everything I've ever read about Japanese schools makes me tend to believe they are real hellholes, worse than American schools. (Well, not the worst of American schools.) There is even a dystopian movie about them called Battle Royale -

Re:Blasphemy!Oh, you are talking about Augmented Reality games, eh?
Augmented Reality: A New Way of Seeing
Unfortunately, it will be a while before the technology becomes inexpensive and readily available:
Of course, you could always take a Gameboy outside, you really need full sunlight or equivalent to play it.
When I was a kid, playing outside sucked, but then I did grow up very near the Urban Deathmaze which may have colored my thinking.... (Please note, Urban Deathmaze is meant with the utmost affection, I love New York! Heck, I remember when my Mom took me to the great electronic games expo there, they had Vectrex's!)

Re:Interesting TimingThis review of the movie "Enter the Ninja":
http://www.teleport-city.com/movies/reviews/kungf
u / nter_ninja.htmlNotes the similarities between the mountain people of Japan, Ninja, and the way the were treated and the mountain people of America, the so-called hillbillies.
What the sundry warlords of feudal Japan saw in the Ninja were easy targets. Hillbillies who could be taxed and exploited and were too powerless in government to defend themselves. They weren't entirely correct. Their superior knowledge of nature and of wilderness survival made a Ninja a fearsome opponent even for a well-trained samurai. Small groups of Ninja could hold off entire armies simply by employing a greater understanding of the land and how to use it to one's advantage. All that cool looking samurai armor isn't going to do you much good when some bunch of farmers are rolling boulders and logs down on you. Contact with Chinese martial artists helped them develop a fighting skill and tactical sense that was often greater than the commanders of the samurai legions, and it wasn't long before the Ninja clans added political savvy to their repertoire. The manipulated policy to protect their villages and would gleefully promote any ignorant superstition about themselves that kept people nervous and away from their hills. Once again, similarities to the so-called hillbillies of Appalachia abound.

Matt Helm rides again! With an exoskeleton!I was watching AMC last night when they were showing several James Bond type movies. They started with Casino Royale which was pretty silly, and continued with The Ambushers, a Dean Martin "Matt Helm" movie that was terribly unfunny and sexist.
The Ambushers contained a scene where workers were moving beer barrels with powered exoskeletons. This film was made in 1967, and those things looked almost like the loaders in Aliens. Okay, not quite but you could see the beginning of an idea.
Dino's estate should sue James "I'm king of the world" Cameron.

Re:Solid state drives.
I see your point, but I have to agree with the other folks chiming in on this thread. The latency for an equivalant throughput RAID is gonna be a hit. Usefulness of any RAM disk will lie wholly in implementation requirements.
80-100MB/s throughput is a damn lot of Muppet Porn, or at the very least, phat Amiga warez. ;)
