I hope you can at least get a shell prompt
Alot of people will buy this box if you can configure it to the way you want (of course you may void your warranty ). If this is to up agianst playstation, nintendo, x-box, sega and any other I forgot mention. The greatest selling point will be this your box the way you want it. You make it into anything you want without our permission The company then can sell thier knowledge of how to programm in thier enviroment To companies who want to support. Also there can also be games that are officially supported but that doean't mean that you can't put another game on there but if it is not an official game we can't help with it. There is alot of things that can be done on the marketing side of this they just need a great spin doctor

This how big companies abuse everyone else
This is we have to fight patents, DMCA, THE MPAA, THE RIAA these laws and
agencies block progress, stifle engenuity, raise prices, crush the competion, and
leave the consumer at mercy of a few. The madness most stop!! We need to support
the EFF and others agencies like it so we don't lose the freedoms we already have

Has anyone taken the AP calculus test.
That test can be passed with a 5 without the use of a Calculator I have done it.
I am concerned that in the "New World" that we will be using or minds less
and allowing computers to do our thinking for us instead of use them as tools
to help assist our thinking.

I wonder
I am curious what the math department at my school are going to say about this.
Being one of 20 math majors at school I wonder if this is a challenge the other math majors
(And maybe some CS people ) are willing to partake in. I guess I need to read up on my Number Theory
I think that is one of my next classes to take :)

That Comes to show you
Human nature is one thing that stays the same as
much as we strive to improve ourself with technology.
Things are still the same politics, the gossip, and the flames. The only thing they are happening at a faster rate.

It is interesting
That is a piece of hacker history there. You never
understand the real impact places like that have
on young hackers untill you are much older. The
community that is created that is the most important thing

What is scary now
However, technology that enables a business process is patentable.
If a programer is asked to create an application
to automate a business process should he worry if
that process itself is patented? What if that
programmer work for himself and he creates such an
application so now A big corporation can tell him
he can't use that application to help himself in
his business. Now that is wrong.

There are other questions too
What if you read the source code of a GPL program
then use the ideas from that code to produce
a NON-GPL program but you were mentaly infected
by the GPL code would that program fall under GPL??
Something to think about

Microsoft and Linux?
I think this guy is trying to spread rumors here or make people think
(Unlike, say, Linux, which is probably half-owned by Microsoft by now, only Microsoft doesn't know it yet... :-) )

If the Nasa doesn't do it someone else will
Another country or private entity will take the ideas that Nasa has and rework them to achieve the this mission to mars. If Nasa wants to stay a leader it needs to regroup and make it work.

Some is going to pick these up
I think someone out will think of some business idea with these satalites something so obvious you don't even won't think out it

Set Backs are bound to happen
You can only expect mistake like the lost of the probes will happen you don't really know what is out there. What would by very interesting if some little tiny country beats the United States to mars. I think in my life time I will see a manned mission to mars. Hopefully I will get to a least go into outer space in my lifetime.

Duplicated efforts
These guys doesn't want to duplicate thier efforts when there are other people out there doing the same thing. Almost like code reuse. This make total sense to me

Applications
I am glad to see this happening. The amount of new Delphi applications that will ported over will be interesting to see. I like to see other people throw their in the linux ring.

The Nature of people
People tend to follow the path of least resitance That is why NT and Windows9x solutions are out Everyone believe them to the easiest things to use. I seen a payment terminal at a movie theater that crashed and it was running windows 95.I would have shot the devoloper myself. I would have choosen QNX/BSD/LINUX/OS2/DOS (not in that order) over windows95 any day but agian people don't think about what they are doing so that is why things like this happen. There are some things that I can devolop Unix that would take a longer time in window95 then the opposite is true. You always need to know that that people are going to use what they want no matter what people do or say

Re:It Depends
That is why I put cost last
because what is costly to you may not be to me

It Depends
What really matters on
1) What you are doing
2) The Knowledge of your staff
3) Cost
