Re:Tech employee here
The Soviet Union, for all it's many and well-documented flaws, achieved for the average citizen a huge increase in standard of living compared with the system it replaced.
Many Russians say it was also better than the one it was replaced with https://www.thetrumpet.com/13769-more-than-half-of-russians-want-the-soviet-union-resurrected. Funny thing: the government is basically working the same it did back then.

Re:Islamic extremist values
The UK is plenty conservative (in this respect far worse than the US). In Italy you can get prosecuted for insulting the pope. Poland too. Much of Eastern Europe, Italy, and even Spain and Portugal can be frighteningly homophobic depending on where you are, even when compared to the most rural areas in the States. There are many places in Europe I would not take my partner, while there are very few in the states I would feel unsafe in, even in the deep south. Do keep in mind that passing a few hate-speech laws does nothing to change people's minds underneath. It just lets you feel superior to the dirty, crazy, Americans when in reality all you're really doing is hiding the problem. You can take your smug superiority and shove it.

Re:Whose enemies?
The difference is Iran will use nukes. They believe it is necessary to cause as much bloodshed as possible so the Mahdi can return. Even if you don't believe it Mahmoud Ahmadinejad does.

Re:"Faith Science Basis?"
However the problem is if parents pull their kids out of school, as they figure they are being taught "devil talk", over all it might be better off to bite your tongue accept some of the more liberal versions of intelligent design vs. fighting it. Just so they don't pull their kids out of school and hinder themselves more. Fine they are idiots in Evolutionary Science however they still might make a good Engineer, or a Scientist in an other field.
Teaching things that aren't based in fact is just ridiculous, and the domain of religion, not science. If they want to believe that a deity set these processes in motion, fine, whatever. That makes no difference to evolution. But to say that we now have to teach that in schools is just nuts. Religion is a personal thing, not something to be taught to everyone. If you're going to teach that, why not throw in the beliefs of a bunch of other religions as well?
That said your argument seems like the typical closed minded Atheists rant. First of all there are many different Religions out there and even in Christianity the difference sects have a huge interpretation on a lot of topics and often they are actually not blobbed into one value. Your topic of Linking Creationism with Slavery isn't very apt, as the Nazi who were for the most part an Atheist group used Evolution to advocate their actions. In short all groups of people can do evil things, or things to hinder real progress and will find a way to justify it in a religion a science, or philosophy.

Re:Bleh...
Given the proven record of the Vatican protecting Nazis, that is not flamebait.
The cooperation between the Vatican and escaping Fascists taints anyone rising to Pope, because those approving him for the position would have either been involved or known of it and kept silent. They would not appoint a "boss of bosses" who would turn on them. Remember the age of the Cardinals when you consider what they do and who they elevate.

Re:The Goose That Laid the Golden EggsI fail to understand why China would be the first to break the status quo, except out of sheer malice They won't. But the oil producers might. They're selling the US oil and getting (soon to be worthless) bits of paper in return, and they basically hate the US anyway for it's continued meddling and interference. If the dollar continues to fall, they'll migrate their reserves (oh so slowly and carefully) into something else instead.

Even the US's strongest ally, Japan is planning to move away:

The question is, will it be a slow, smooth change over decades allowing people to get used to higher inflation and higher interest rates, or will it be a disruptive one, bankrupting millions? With the social consequences of revolution, coups, civil wars, fascist dictatorships. Markets tend towards the latter as a gentle decline turns into freefalling panic...
