Another, similar project
This site features a goos system for one handed data imput. It makes more sense to me than the pictures from the japanese sight did anyway.

One guy's setup
Is this just one guy's setup, or is it designed to be compatible across many different setups? There are a lot of different input methods (wireless keyboard, mouse, joystick, twiddler, touch-screen), lots of different output devices (sound only w/ text-to-speech, sound with screen, NTSC TV, true VGA, a non-standard LCD screen), several different ways to control powerup/powerdown (eg. tell the inverter to turn off after finishing powerdown, wake on LAN/802.11b, ability to tell the car to auto-start to recharge the battery). A set of software that supports a variety of these would be truly valuable and I'd gladly contribute, but this looks like it's just one guy's particular setup.

Re:Fine, except...
I think a while back on slashdot... or somewhere, I saw an alternate input search.
Thumbscript is a pretty easy to learn method for typing full blown letters on a 9-number pad. Of course, I haven't seen it in any real devices, but I had it down after three tries through the alphabet.
Pretty clever -
Re:Alternative uses for chorded keyboards
Has anyone tried thumbscript before? I learned it in an hour using their example, and is meant for people to use for phones.
I know this isn't as easy to use as query, but it shows some promise for all those damned phones that try guessing what you typed in. -
Thumbscript
My favourite alt keyboard-like input has to be Thumbscript. It uses the 9 keys of a number-pad (like on a phone) to input characters. There's a free PalmOS hack, but I would really like to use it with real (physical) buttons, like the prototype pager on the home page./p

re: Thumbscript...
This seems relevant to this discussion, so I am putting it out, taking a risk that I might be modded down, but who cares, right?
Check out Thumbscript, an alternative to Grafitti and possibbly twiddlers, as well...
Oh, and BTW, if this (talking about Thumbscript) becomes a story in a few days, I am going to be REALLY pissed at whoever rejected my submission!
