Re:This is a hard lesson for the Industry."Someone on another forum I frequent was trying to figure out an open source way to do this... best we came up with was using VLC to do the transcoding/downsampling and streaming, but it's a lot more of a hassle to set up as I understand it. I haven't personally tried either, but I've seen the results of Slingbox, and it's pretty slick."
I just found this link that gives an opensource method of doing this...with mythtv. Sounds interesting.

+RSS+Bittorrent = Project for Open Source Media
Check out the Project for Open Source Media(POSM) as they are developing a Linux run set-top HTPC box. I've actually got an alpha version in my living room right now. At the moment it is proof of concept using some 5 year old whiteboxes (with new video card and 200GB HD), Azureus, Gnome Nautilus, some shell scripts and a Packard Bell remote control, but it looks and works great.
In addition to all the standard HTPC features, the POSM box uses RSS feeds with bittorrent enclosures like the awesome Pep Del.icio.us feed) to download great looking video automatically. Plus the POSM guys have gone to trouble of fine tuning the outputs (an Nvidia MX4000, ~$30) so they are nearly broadcast quality with proper whites and overscan.
With a high quality MP4 file (like I'm pulling from the DigitalBicycle Project (I'm a developer on the project) you seriously can't tell the difference between that and television. -
Re:RSS + Bittorrent
There is a plugin for MythTv that takes an RSS feed, downloads the show via bittorrent, and Voila!
check it out here: http://www.torrentocracy.com/ -
Re:This is great!
All the replies miss the point. He wanted one that integrates with MythTV. Enter torrentocracy.

Re:LOL
I figured you liked Visual Grep. I just wanted to make a little joke, and point Windows users to the real grep. Also, I would like to mod your sig +5 Insightful. It beats me completely how people can re-elect a goverment that does all these things that I'm getting tired of mentioning.
If you haven't yet, you may want to check out UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ (torrent of the interviews). People who knew what was going on (CIA employees etc.) give their opinions...and they are not very favorable for Bush.
This post is gonna cost me some karma, but it's worth it to me. -
Re:I'd love a breakdown of legal vs. illegal files
If I were being snippy, I'd say RTFA, but I won't.
The article mentioned Torrentocracy
I can't speak to the quality of them or anything. -

Re:Political torrents
torrentocracy has political content that is set up to work with MythTV and a corresponding Blog so you can point their custom BitTorrent client at the RSS feed and automatically have your MythTV box download the content as it becomes available and view when you get around to it. This is really a great example of the RSS & BT Together idea that was discussed here on slashdot a while back. Until I saw Torrentocracy, I really didn't "get it", but now I do. This kind of thing could really change the way we get our newertainment.

Torrentocracy
Check out Torrentocracy for a way to download bit torrented content from RSS feeds straight to your TV. As far as content, that's the major stumbling block. There needs to be more people willing to license under the Creative Commons. Per that, I'm also currently hosting interviews from Robert Greenwald's last two movies, Outfoxed and Uncovered.
