Re:Crack vs. Foss
Then use TUGZip, IZArc, PeaZip, Filzip, ZipGenuis or a dozen other free compression utilities. I'm sure one of them will be to your liking.
I have personally used TUGZip and IZArc for years and think they are both fantastic pieces of software. I have been meaning to also give PeaZip a try, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Re:EULAs are not meant to be read
I actually like clicking through the GPL. It tells me right away what kind of license I'm dealing with, and lets me know I can deploy the software through my company with impunity. Hell, TUGZip and PDFCreator alone have saved my company thousands over WinZip and Acrobat, and clicking through the GPL's boilerplate lets me know that I don't have to worry about hidden gotchas that might be present in a custom "open source" license.

Other affected programs: Tugzip...
My archiving application of choice, Tugzip is also affected by this update and the mentioned fix took care of the problem.

better options
I would consider the following superior options for those recommended in the article.
7-Zip --> TUGzip http://www.tugzip.com/
I used 7zip originally, but when I found TUGzip I switched immediately. It has excellent Explorer right-click menu integration and supports drag/drop, and the 7z format itself. Plus it now supports encryption too.
Tinn --> PSPad http://www.pspad.com/
Just try it yourself, it's far more functional, and is starting to approach the featureset of UltraEdit. -
This site solves the problem for Windows users.
MOD PARENT UP. Excellent site!
Whoops! Hit the submit button before I was fully ready.
What do you think of TugZip?
I would like a way to limit searches on your web site to Open Source software. I think it would be good if each listing on your site mentioned if the package is open source.

Re:has it got any new features
I've been trying out Tugzip. Free, no nag screens, supports almost any format including rar, pretty nice.

Comparison...
For cross-platform use use 7-zip...

For Windows, tugzip is nice...

Here is a nice comparison....

Re:Windows Zip utilities, huh?
I'd like to join in on the effort of pointing out the irrelevance of WinZIP by mentioning my favorite free compression utility: TUGZip (http://www.tugzip.com/) (not open source).

Re:Teraterm and winzip
TUGZip (at www.tugzip.com) has a much nicer UI than 7-Zip (at least last time I used it), as well as handling tonnes of formats and being free!

Why 7-Zip???
Why use 7-Zip? There are so many other great alternatives. I prefer TugZip (http://www.tugzip.com/)
