Re:They will never learn!I would love to see an online archive of Babylon 5, Star Trek:TNG, Law & Order, 24, or any of the other TV shows that I watch. If I could go back and watch my favorite episode at the click of a button and the only downside was a few ads (that I'd see on TV anyway) how am I losing? www.tv-links.co.uk

Oh well..
I won't be buying a digital TV anytime soon, probably not before I'm worm-food, as I'm over 50. My Sanyo 27-inch will probably last until then. If they switch off the analog signal, I guess I'll simply turn to watching the occasional DVD with my DVD player and TV, and any broadcast TV shows/movies/etc I really want to see on my PC from a website like TV-Links.

The nice thing about that is it will probably reduce the time I waste watching TV overall, and save me viewing advertising. I'll also save money by dropping TV service entirely from my cable provider, and simply retain internet access.
Cheers!

Re:getting gouged by whom?
Brass Eye is a very good parody of media hysteria.

Re:Hypocrisy
Sure, but did you know that Japan had two independent and advanced atomic weapons programs underway? One, in Japan, was destroyed before the U.S arrived, and the other was located in what is now North Korea, and likely gutted by Russia after the war.
An idea floated was to blow a boat/sub in San Fran harbour, but the two bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki beat them to it.

Television? What's Television?

Re:The IT Crowd
you can watch full episodes of the UK version online: http://tv-links.co.uk/
the american version, like all such translations, will be sure to suck -
It's not surprising
It's not surprising, because most online videos are clips, or at best small-screened streaming shows. It's basically a question of time versus availability - I may only have 2 hours a day where I can game/watch TV etc, and if I did want to watch a show that I don't own/isn't on DVD, I'd have to download it on BT, which prevents me using the 2 hours there and then.
It's quite a non-article as well. Games vs short clips & Myspace? Eh. Let the big players allow me to purchase (by microfee hopefully, although I doubt they'd be so generous) the ability to stream and watch something right away, and then measure that against using the net for gaming, and then there might be an article worth reading. -
tv no longer entertains?
isn't the whole idea of television to entertain for as long as possible?
forget that. get the entire episode:
http://tv-links.co.uk/ - watch full tv online (like youtube)
http://sharetv.org/ - download tons of full tv shows for free
that's how you watch tv! -
Re:pr0n
And there's also sites like TV Links that link to streaming videos of all your favourite TV shows.
The genie is already out of the bottle, and no-one can put it back in again.

Already a site that does this...

Re:Anyone got a good UK proxy?
if you want to watch these shows go to http://tv-links.co.uk/ - i really can't see the point of going to all that effort just to get the same thing via the officially sanctioned DRM-enabled impossible to use route.

Re:I bet it's all a publicity stunt.
I didn't know either, and I rather like this whole video site thing.
For one thing, it brought about http://www.tv-links.co.uk/ which is somewhat more convenient then torrents.
Its rather sad that Microsoft have yet again only come up with a service because other people thought of it first, and they are so concerned with retaining their conjugal rights with the media companies that they are willing to kill it.
Turning it off is just a PR move anyway, I'd be willing to bet they only started it so they could do this. That might be a paranoid thing to say, but they are so rich they honestly could afford to do just that, sad to say.
