Tivo is a patent troll. This is *not* one of those situations. This is the system doing exactly what it was supposed to, protect the guys who genuinely invented something unique.
You nicely sidestepped the remainder of my post where I asked about that very issue. I don't believe Tivo was revolutionary, innovative, nor new as the basis for the DVR was first done in 1965. Margi built the first video/audio capture card in 1995. ATI produced it's first AIW in 1996. The original TiVo product was proposed in 1997.The first DVR was tested on July 8, 1965, when CBS explored the possibilities of instant freeze-frame and rewind for sporting event broadcasts. Ampex released the first commercial hard disk video recorder in 1967. The HS-100 recorded analog video onto a digital hard disk and could store a maximum of only 30 seconds.
So, exactly how is Tivo unique? Their software? Everything else seems obvious and logical extensions from earlier and certainly expired by now patents. So, given that the mechanics are obvious, and the software of Tivo is stated to be "vastly superior" to Dish, and that Dish offers what ATI etc offer prior to Tivo's conception even, how is Tivo the little good guy here? Seems like one of those blasted patent trolls to me, especially since "time-shifting" and rewind on a hard drive based system existed in 1965 for crying out loud. -
Re:Sorry, but no...
I bought the samsung yp mt6 http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/ypmt6/, just for it's battery life. Single AA batery, 50+ hours (personally tested) of music

Just Use Quiet Fans & Good HW
You have two choices other than dumpster diving - one is to buy really quiet components and other is go with fanless watercooling. I can tell you from experience that the fans make a really big difference. I usually buy the best fans I can afford and they usually run under 10-15 dB. It's hard to tell that stuff is even one, especially once you get the case buttoned up.
I have a case fan that I bought that runs at under 10dB - which less literally than a whisper. Keep the HDD and the CD/DVD drives quiet. Use a quiet power supply - yes, they make them - http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/silenx/index2.php - that one is well under 15dB.
This link is to a quiet video card - http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/zm80d-hp.html. It works without a fan at all but is dependent on the case fan/cooling.
This link is to fanless CPU cooler - http://www.overclockers.com/tips1218/ - uses a pump and water tank.
That means that you should be able to have your system built and running at no more than 30dB, if you choose your parts right, which is really really quiet. Closeted away, in a cabinet or some such, and you'll likely not even know it's on.

Re:...for shame....
Not only that, but it isn't even original! You can get a PREMADE acrylic case that is in the form of a briefcase from ClearPC. Not only that, but it fits ATX motherboards. Here's the product page and a couple reviews:
What a shame.

Tweaknews has a better review
SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 172X LCD at TweakNews.net, seems to he a more thorough review. Sounds like a great monitor, though too much for my wallet. $400 seems to be a viable price point for me.

Review at Tweaknews
Tweaknews.net did a review of the Lubic kit last month. Apparently it's not as easy to use as an erector set, but it's still a cool product for case modders.

nforce?, no way...
Why would you need an nforce for a terminal? You will waste your money on an unused GeForceMX & Duron.
I would have gone for the VIA Epia, they are slow as hell, but smaller, quieter, and cheaper!
