Re:Intel makes for awesome Linux boxes.
I think if your monitors had the passthrough ports then all you would need would be 2 DisplayPorts on the video card.
I did the How To at http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-eyefinity-technology/Pages/eyefinity.aspx
and it recommends a 6850 or 6950 (I have) for a 4 monitor setup. Were you thinking of the 5870 Eyefinity Edition which actually has 6 DisplayPort outputs? I believe the 6000 series and up have the newer DisplayPort for daisychaining.
This guy used a 6950 with 4 odd monitors - http://www.uberreview.com/2012/03/amd-6950-eyefinity-review-and-how-to.htm
But he used all the ports instead of daisychaining DisplayPort only. Here they say 6 monitors are good with 2 DisplayPorts if you have daisychaining monitors.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/309846-33-eyefinity-monitors
"DP 1.2 monitors have 2+ ports, with which you can connect up to 3 monitors in serial. Two ports on the card, so 6 monitors that way. You can do this only with native DisplayPort 1.2 supportive monitors. No DP-DVI dongles work. " -
Re:Lameness and collateral lameness
S/N measured in dB.
Or signal strength in dBm.
At least this seems to be an alternative to the cantenna solution.
And there are a lot of cantenna articles on
/. already: http://ask.slashdot.org/tag/cantenna -
Re: "specified location"
You forgot the obligatory Admiral Ackbar.
;)But setting up a wireless access point connected only to a local server would probably do a lot better. Use a "cantenna" to direct the access point covering area to a given location and it will be trickier to triangulate. Even better if you can bounce the radio waves against something using the "cantenna".
It would be an excellent information drop point for everyone in covert operations. Add a steganographed picture of something innocent - or maybe not so innocent like a pr0n image and you can propagate your information.

Re:Automakers never want hybrids to go mainstream
Ah, my bad, I didn't notice the full-electric bit.
Plug-in hybrid and full-electric will require some changes in the national electricity grid, but it will pave the way to full-electric.
I wonder how they will find a way to 'refuel' those batteries on long-haul trips.
Maybe Toshiba's new laptop battery will provide a solution.(also, this means that people will need to look at how their electricity is generated, if they want to be 'greener')

I believe you're thinking of what I like to call the zen cube.

Who Cares about Bugles
I like how the list has 19 items and everyone is focusing on a bugle story from 2003. It sounds like some people could benefit from the lazy drinker and then crash with your computer in bed

Why Build when you can buy a built system for $500
http://www.uberreview.com/2005/10/biggames-home-v
i deo-arcade-machine.htm Starting in November, Target Stores will offer a BigGames full size home video arcade machines that will retail for less than $500 nationwide. Each unit plays 12 of the original arcade versions of the most popular Midway® games including: Defender®, Defender® II, Robotron®, Joust®, Bubbles®, Splat(TM), Sinistar®, Rampage®, Rootbeer Tapper(TM), Wizard of Wor(TM), Timber(TM), and Satan's Hollow(TM). The unit stands 62" tall and has an included, built-in, full color monitor. It comes with additional A/V inputs that allow (almost) any existing home video game system, DVD player, VCR or any other A/V product to be plugged in and viewed on the built-in monitor. At 62" the unit is not truly full size but at $500 no work required it may be a good deal. Especially when the hackers get their hands on the unit. The quality of this system should be interesting. I just hope it is better than their http://www.mybiggames.com/index.htmwebsite.
