Re:Safety
In any sane country, the customer. In the USA? The wealthiest company even marginally involved (see e.g. this for inspiration).

Re:Does mythtv
"you insensitive clod!" is, of course, a reference to the 1986 Valentine's Day Calvin & Hobbes strip or The Simpsons episode Last Tap Dance in Springfield , wherein Frink exclaims to Homer, "I was merely trying to spare the girl's feelings, you insensitive clod!"

Re:Once again we see
Is there? If someone is not a metaphorical doormat, then there must be things that they will not tolerate, and thus they're not completely tolerant.
Basically, it is a joke based on my being a pedantic fuck. Though in all seriousness, I think it would be good for people who consider themselves "tolerant" to recognize that they themselves are intolerant of some people's ideas and opinions. It helps keep things in perspective. -

Slight correction:
Translation: In a Democrat controlled congress the Democrats could not convince their own people to reject this bill. Thus the bill passed with the help of some Democrats voting for this bill.
In a Democrat controlled Congress, the Republicans can still use "soft of terrorism" to get certain Democrats to vote however they want them to.

Re:Um, the economics...
Oh... my... god!
Look. If it costs $30 to extract a barrel of oil from the ground they're not going to bother to produce it and sell it on an international market at $10/barrel. That would be what's called ... Making a loss and not a profit. And if it's not being produced and sold that would mean less supply wouldn't it and lower supply means higher prices. So... The only reason they are even considering these technologies for tar sands and oil shales is the high price of gas. High gas prices are here to stay and apart from a short dip when the damaged refineries are recomissioned and additional capacity added they are only going to get higher.
I RTFA and was aware anyway that Shell and the rest have been investigating many extraction technologies in the full knowledge that the price of oil is only going to increase in the coming years.
You should now slap your forehead and shout DOH, just like the 9mpg SUV drivers out there.

Well, it at least suggests she probably does not object to all sexual activity. (And it's "non sequitur", from Latin, BTW.)Moreover, she is pregnant with twins.
Unbelievably absurd nonsequitor. -
Re:Where is the sweat!
Someone to come in and create a stable goverment (that will not starve opponents).
I don't mean to nit-pick, but I find it unlikely that someone can come in and create a stable government that is anything more than despotism. A valid government has to be made up of the people it governs. Outside influence seldom seems to be a positive force.(And since it's ontopic here, a recent Ted Rall cartoon, NYTimes, registration etc)

No Boondocks but how about Fox Trot?
The only thing that's missing is another Boondocks cartoon parodying the RIAA's paranoia and campaign to paint all people with the worst color brush.
Curse you, record labels! Curse you straight to Hades! -
But what *I* want to know is...
whether the Linux underwear for this version has been released yet.

Re:The Empire State Building
At the other end of the spectrum is the Statue of Liberty. Only a handful of tourists would have been killed, but the symbolic meaning is far, far greater than that of the WTC. Case in point: these two political cartoonists. Had the Statue been hit, they wouldn't have drawn the WTC peeking through the debris.
So which target is worse? How many people would have to die in buildings less than 30 years old before that loss outweighs the deep emotional, spiritual significance of losing the ultimate symbol of American unity and liberty?
Far fewer than 5,000, I think, but maybe that's just because it really happened. -

not the same game
It does look like an inbred cousin! Actually, it reminds me of those clothes that rip off some designer style (Christian clothing makers rip off things like "No Fear", I've seen high schools (including mine) that ripped off beer logos, etc). A poorly designed imitation. I've got to say that most people who want to buy an iMac will buy the iMac instead of the eMachines computer because on almost every front, the iMac is better. If somebody is just looking for a cute computer (see the last few days of Foxtrot) then s/he will buy the iMac because it really does look better. If somebody is looking for an Apple (for what they see as superior technology, or to avoid supporting Wintel, or whatever), then s/he will buy the iMac because it is an Apple. If somebody is looking for a status symbol, s/he will buy the iMac because you don't impress people with a rip-off. On the other hand, if somebody just wants a cheap computer, they probably wouldn't even be looking at the iMac. The point is that I don't see the two computers as even really competing with eachother. Somebody who goes into a computer store set on buying an iMac will buy one anyway, dispite the price. Somebody who wants the cheapest computer they can find would be frightened away from the iMac to begin with. I don't think that Apple is directly threatened by the eMachine in terms of sales. But the point has been made that Apple's claim to intellectual property is only as good as their willingness to defend it. This may ultimately be socially and culturally damaging (this practice in general, not just Apple's use of it), but it makes business sense for them. Hmm. Sorry, I seem to have rambled. Flame away. I'll be in my bunker. andy
