It's not the thing I research specifically so I am not loaded down with bookmarks for you but I know all about it from undergrad

Aside from that, what exactly do you think phenomena like PTSD are? Purely disembodied psychological issues? If you've were or have ever repeatedly sustained hard study, you'd notice that your whole "self" changes in response to your efforts. You're smarter, your experience of everyday life is richer etc etc. This goes on as long as you're willing to inflict a good measure of discomfort on yourself.
By the same token, leaving your studies for a time then coming back is an extraordinarily punishing affair. Along with feelings of inadequacy and bewilderment when faced with the same material you left even a few short weeks ago, there's a sense of awe at your own former self's output and level of functioning.
Like the song says:

Do please check my math, if you so desire. - Electron mass being 9.10938215 × 10^-31kg, 10^5 electrons in a bit, And an average African Elephant weighing 3.6 tonnes.

The C64 had (essentially) a 6502 running at 1 MHz, the 1541 had a 6502B running at 2 MHz.
That's not true. The 1541 has a 6502 at 1MHz, and that's from the service manual and the schematics therein.
The main C64 clock is close. I'm going to quote a stunning description of the C64 and its video architecture:This clock signal is the reference for the complete bus timing. Its frequency is 1022.7 kHz (NTSC models) or 985.248 kHz (PAL models).
However, 25 times per video frame (so 1500 times a second in NTSC) the video chip needs more cycles:For this reason, the VIC uses the mechanism described in section 2.4.3. to "stun" the processor for 40-43 cycles during the first pixel line of each text line to read the character pointers. The raster lines in which this happens are usually called "Bad Lines" ("bad" because they stop the processor and thus slow down the computer and lead to problems if the precise timing of a program is essential, e.g. for the transmission of data to/from a floppy drive).
I highly recommend the paper above for anybody interested in just how far blackbox reverse engineering of LSI chips can go, and just how many amazing ways to stretch the C64 architecture have been discovered between 1982 and 1996, when the paper was written.

Re:The C64 was the bestIt was actually possible to know everything there is to know about it.
Of course, it is possible to know everything that is stated in the official documentation. Unfortunately this does only reproduce the specifications of the C64 chipset, not the actual implementation.
One amazing thing about the C64 is that it offers and endless amount of ways to abuse the hardware to do even more amazing things. (Does the documentation state anything about 320x200x16 graphic modes,8 bit samples, fullscreen graphics?) Still today people find new coding tricks now and then. (Check out this site, the top ten list)
The C64 CPU is well known, all of its illegal opcodes have been decoded and documented. You can even find the reverse engineered circuit on the web. (click - sorry its hungarian, use your imagination to navigate the site).
Also the C64 video chip, the VIC, is thouroughly documented based on empirical knowledge (here). However, there are still pieces and bits left..
The sounds chip, the SID, has been reverse engineered to a state where fairly accurate emulation is possible. Unfortunately this is only true for the digital part. The analog part of the sid (mainly programmable filters) does hardly follow the specification and is subject to variations between different SID-chip revisions etc. This problem can only be solved by reverse engineering the actual circuit of the filter.
