you let the tom bombadil chapter stop you? sheesh...
honestly, its one of the most confusing chapters in the book, and quie frankly is quite out of place. you wouldnt be missing anything if you skipped it.
i like some of melville's work, too, specifically "Bartleby the Scrivener". And yes, you are right that the social commentary was ahead of his time.
but, and maybe it was the style of the time, he did have a obsession with REALLY LONG descriptions of the most mundane things... pages and pages of the description of brass buttons and whatnot. seemed pointless to me.
If you are an engineer with any sort of social skills, get the hell out of engineering and go into sales/marketing. Your technical talents will make you a god, you will decide what projects to do, and you will have a life other than coding and WoW
As a recent convert from dev to sales engineer.... Halleleujia.
and the money, power, respect, career path are much, much better.
the funny thing is, i haven't seen a manufacturer list MTBF in write cycles in over 5 years. wt the newer materials, and ar levelling, the worst that i've seen is a mtbf of 1 million hours of continuous use. there is no ention of write cycles , ever!
Yeh, I agree completely, just look at the auto industry, and how you spend 80% of your money and time fixing them, instead of driving.
I mean, when I'm drving around, with my kids back on the Rumble seat, you just never know when you will need to pull over to the side of the road with a leaky hose, or busted belt. Glad that I keep that complete repair kit in the Boot. You know, just like the dealer told me to, in case the car breaks down at random.
Boy, I sure am glad that I know how to repair every single bit of this car, aint it just swell?
Wait.... hold on... I think, that maybe we have progressed from that a bit...
yes, it must be the council of evil scientists, liberals and tree huggers (CESLATH) that has been funding this propaganda to try and topple the good and saintly engergy Companies!
But, I hand someone my business card, and it has my work email address, I've set GMail up to respond from that email address, so the customer doesnt know.
What is your problem again? Lack of control, big guy? Afraid someone will make your Kingdom obsolete.
here's the truth: email is a commodity, and companies spend an extraordinary amount of money implementing it badly, individually.
No, its called taxation. It *is* the central part of a society.
Yes, I'm sure that the Union's will be able to match the corporations contributions.
Actually, what will probably happen is that Unions will be made illegal after all of the government is bought and paid for.
*This* is what the second amendment is for. We apparently don't have a working democracy anymore.
With Intel's restrictions on Netbooks on their Atom platform, it looks like Prima Facie evidence of restraint of trade.
Intel is going to be knocked around quite a bit, if they don't wise up.
Try L4d before you give up on Steam. Seriously, its an amazing game.

What are you talking about? Stossel doesn't present anything that can be called "facts". Its all "overblown rhetoric".
THe objective data, Life expectency, Avg Height, A variety of Birth stats all point to one thing: America, as a whole, has horrible health care.

well, thats not exactly the same as covering up the deliberate ouster of a NOC agent, is it?
i've always been partial to:
"sudo su -"
and leave the root password empty.
Where is the C&D from the FSF?
If someone is making a dubious claim, slap them with a c&d, and force this thing into court.
More than a typical spinning HD, actually.
MTBF in NAND flash is between 1M hrs and 3M hrs. They don't even use write cycles any more.
The answer to all of these issues is simple:
If you're stuck with a Windows-only app, any app, then use Citrix or RDP to bridge the divide until the Linux offering becomes good enough.

>The Sahara is a desert because the Atlas mountains block rain.
You mean, The Sahara that formed after the ancient africans were using it as their primary farmland?
the entire site is bullshit, supported by ExxonMobil.
Doing anything besides pointing the fact that its pure, unadulterated bullshit, is giving it mroe credence than it deserves.

they're already in the email program, keep them there. i like it there, its all in one place, and its searchable.
stop making me move my shit all over the palce, i cant find it that way.
its not a problem, we have 650,000 years of CO2 and climate data to compare current conditions to.
funny, i didnt realize that we were running on a beer-and-chocolate economy during WW2, either.
Funny enough, Poland was invaded by Der Fuhrer almost entirely for Oil. As was the North African campaign.
actually, if you bought a c64, the floppy drive (1541( and a decent monitor, you were well over $600.
I think that I remember the c64 ending its life as selling for $200 (of which, $150 was gross profit)
