XBM images - black and white pixel master
(Mostly off topic, but, heck.. what is the topic?)
If you only get black and white pixels, I hope they are rendering them as XBM images. XBM is the coolest long-lost, widely supported image format - client side scriptable too! -
Re:Be Careful
Thats what I said in The Fonz uses AJAX to spy on you (ajax-fueled text adventure included) - but as everyone will point out to you in overly angry tones, that could have been done a zillion years ago with a hidden iframe. I think the difference now is that people are thinking about how to apply ajax, so you are gettin all sorts of new and cool applications. Which also means you are getting all sorts of new and evil applications

Re:Don't take your eye off the ball
Hey hey, let's not bash Flash for being annoying. You can be equally annoying and stupid in DHTML too, you know.

I knew this day would come...
Nows my chance to sell all the wasabi-peas I've collected that look like statler and/or waldorf.
Good times ahead! -
Re:Rubbish
Or do what I did - re-program all your old games in DHTML - runs on todays hardware, at yesterdays speeds
-
Re:Let me guess...
Thats how i read it too - heres a "software" version of this "technology" using two interlaced jpgs and a xbm mask.. I'm imaging this is how the physical one is working too. kind of.

Re:I don't understand...
I mostly mostly agree with you on this one... 99.9% of all blogs (and indeed anything people "share") are gunna be crap. But it does mean that over time the good stuff floats to the top. Every webdesign blog I go to has a link to alistapart. It becomes easy to find the good stuff.
And all the other stuff just sits there not harming anyone. And its good that people write stuff, rather than spending that half hour watching tv, or doing something useful... Its good to work out your brain even if no one in the world is interested! (heres my brain workout :) -
Are we going to run out of oil?
There seems to be more and more articles of this nature on slashdot these days. Search for "peak oil" and today and you'll get twice as many results as yesterday.
Are we in a bit of a state of emergency, or is just something to fill in the news until the next war/economic crisis/natural disaster?
(p.s. I'm not taking any chances. I'm learning the important survival skillz) -
Re:Adoption
Well, good news is that it shouldn't be around for much longer
Be sure to learn all thats needed to survive in style in the chaotic post oil world. -
Re:What about plugins?
Exactly... I thought "Yeah, that'd be great developing firefox." and to test out if it really was for me I decided to take the extension easy path. I wacked up the super unuseful Slashdot moderator extension then realised that even something so trival took a shit load of time.
I gave up on that dream. But at least I didn't waste anyone's time checking my dodgy patches. -
Re:curious
