Re:The RMS quote is very sad!
Even though I respect the work RMS has done, the comment is a bit creepy.
I mean he really seems to be going for the "digital jesus" thing here, which could end badly (not just for RMS but for those around him.... assuming there are people around him).

Re:Obviously!
Good question. I tried to google an answer, but this is the best I could come up with:
Notice the "NDA declined". Always standing on principle.
I suspect that if somebody pointed out the inconsistency to him, he'd come up with one of his long, complicated monologues arguing that there's no inconsistency. His arguments require a huge amount of effort to parse, never mind refute. Not worth the trouble. I'll content myself with refuting the arguments of his fanboys, who haven't mastered the art of rhetorical carpetbombing.

You ask for it
This guy looks like he couldn't reproduce unless test tubes were involved. Then there is this guy. Wolf!!! Then, look at these studmuffins here. Which one do you want has your wingman? I am not saying sex is impossible with any of these chaps (except maybe the second one) but it will take a lot of work. They have to put down the Linux sometime. In your case, Ubuntu is basically giving up on the whole hardcore linux crap for a social life. Just ask this playa.
The faces of Microsoft aren't much to look at. But hey, they are rich and can buy all the tail they need!
If this guy can sell these. He shouldn't have any trouble smooth talking a lady. This guy doesn't seem to have a problem. I say Mac users are a happy bunch.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the BSD folks. Their OS is "infirmed" but they got heart. Just look at their mascot. These guys are classy.

emacs
I've been writing python code on mac os x for over two years now, and all I ever needed was the emacs port for OS X. The CPython mode for emacs does sensible syntax highlighting, indentation etc.

Re:Sorry, has to be saidAny suggestions as to a good free-as-in-beer editor that'll work under 10.2.x?
You've got something against Emacs?

evil weblog
"DirectoryService: NetInfo connection failed for server 127.0.0.1/local."
"The solution was to restore the Netinfo database."
NO. the solution is to turn off "Net Info" in the Directory Access program located within /Applications/Utilities folder.
If you are trying to athunticate to a non-existing netinfo daemon in your domain, your going to get problems.
Turning off that option relieves the problems hinted at in this link. Please sirs, try this instead of blowing away your net info database, When I first got my powerbook 12" I had this same problem. I realized later on that I clicked "Net Info" in the Directory Access program, and it was trying to auth to a non-existant server. -
Why I am puzzledI'm puzzled. I can't see instant synergies. Let me explain why.
a. Google News
Dan Gillmor, who broke this story, mentioned in an update the possibility, that the weblog links can be used to improve Google News.
But Google doesn't need to buy Pyra for that. Google can spider any leading weblog they want. Yes, there was this problem of interlinked weblogs resulting in a high PR (PageRank) for certain logs, but Google fixed that problem by giving more value to outgoing links then incoming links. They don't need to buy Blogger for indexing of weblogs.
b. Portal
Another suggestion that has been made: Google is moving to a portal.
I refuse to believe that Google is getting megalomanic. Besides, we all know what happened to AltaVista.
c. Direct access
Jshare suggested Google bought Blogger to get direct access to blog data.
But crawling the 200.000 active Blogs doesn't cost much resources. It's only a few gig of data. Why bother to buy a whole firm for that?
d. Journal with ads
Mateub suggests that Google could make a magazine out of the blogs, complete with ads.
But they can do that already. Have a close look at news.google.com. Search for, hmm, Google At the right side, there's enough space for ads. Google could index just the weblogs, like Daypop, and make a new product out of it (without buying Pyra).
Whatever the reason is behind the buy, it will have a huge impact. The simple fact that one of the hottest internet companies buys Pyra's Blogger will make the product main stream in months.
