    It's actually quite promising and her experiments are specifically geared at finding economical processes that scale. The first section of her experiments deal with increasing yields of the algae. Both in terms of the mass and the lipids that would convert to fuel. Basically she found that you could use Neon gas to filter natural light and controlling CO2 at various stages get a 20% bump over natural light.

The next steps were to find alternative methods of extracting the lipids from the algae without the use of toxic chemicals. She used several processes at various points to archive this. All of which had a heavy focus on economic viability.

The only concern I have about this is what happens to a freshman in college who thinks they can just run any old experiments they want in the lab. That's the biggest barrier to this research continuing.

The scientists privately expressed greater doubts or uncertainties about the science in their own professional writings and in their interactions with one another than they allowed to be stated in reports of the IPCC or WMO that were intended for policymakers. Rather than criticise the scientists for this, the inquiries (particularly the House of Commons and Oxburgh inquiries) took the astonishing view that as long as scientists expressed doubts and uncertainties in their academic papers and among themselves, it was acceptable for them to conceal those uncertainties in documents prepared for policy makers.

4. The scientists took steps individually or in collusion to block access to data or methodologies in order to prevent external examination of their work. This point was accepted by the Commons Inquiry and Muir Russell, and the authors were admonished and encouraged to improve their conduct in the future.

5. The inquiries were largely unable to deal with the issue of the issue of blocking publication of papers, or intimidating journals. These ended up being subjective, he-said-she-said disputes, and in some cases the documentation was too sparse. But academics reading the emails could see quite clearly the tribalism at work, and in comparison to other fields, climatology comes off looking juvenile, corrupt and in the grip of a handful of self-appointed gatekeepers and bullies.

There remain two other questions needing to be addressed:

You should probably look up the failure/success rate of the Atlas V rocket (the actual launch vehicle that will be carrying MSL) before you go off on some sort of rant about how dangerous rockets are.

From one point of view, you are right: rockets, in general, are complex, chaotic, dangerous machines.

From another point of view, (the one that I would say is most applicable) your explanation is nearly pointless. The Atlas V vehicle has a nearly spotless track record. The few failures that did occur were at the very beginning of its operation cycle. In the last ten years or so, the Atlas V success rate is something absurdly high, as in nearly 100% successful. So, for this particular spacecraft, your point is moot.

Current American launch vehicle providers may not provide the cheapest ride to space, but you can bet your bollocks on a barn dance that they certainly provide the safest ride to space (Orbital Space Systems small-class launch vehicles being a bit of an exception to this rule).

The sad part here is that had the inquiries been honest, they could have possibly recovered some of their lost credibility. Instead, we now have yet again baseless appeals to authority in order to justify a non-falsifiable hypothesis.

If you want to talk about the "science" of Global Climate Change, posit your falsifiable hypothesis first. Models upon models upon fudge factors isn't science, it's entertainment.
