Re:inspire magazine telling how to derail trains i
This is, however, a clear warning of how unpopular views are readily suppressed. It's not clear to me what the best answer is.
There is no clear answer. But as a metric, We can compare The activities of the White Supremacists and Neo Nazis to other groups.
Bastille day celebration with a terrorist driving a truck through it. 84 people killed. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/0...
Man drives into crow of people in Israel, killing one http://www.timesofisrael.com/d...
Man tries to drive a car through a crowd in Belgium https://themuslimissue.wordpre...
How ramming cars into crowds became a major terror tactic (London attack) https://www.washingtonpost.com...
Another attack in Stockholm https://www.nytimes.com/2017/0...
Attack in Heidelberg http://www.nbcnews.com/news/wo... Isreal again. http://www.westernjournalism.c...
London again: http://www.dw.com/en/terrorist...
And that is just some of them.
So what we have here is a tactic used by terrorists. Pick a crowd, and play Bowling for Humans. Looks like the Bastille Day guy has the highest score so far. This is pretty obviously Terrorism, and the only people who support it is likewise terrorists and their supporters.
So we have a group of people who support supremacy of one race over another - That would be the Klan. They have a history of violence and murder.
We have Neo-Nazis. Another group of people that support the National Socialist movement and all that entails. These two groups dovetail rather nicely together.
Then we have a member of the second group who runs his car through a crowd of people in Virginia.
It all fits. I don't negotiate with terrorists, nor do I wish to appease them. Appeasement doesn't work with Nazis, if we recall our history. And Blut und Boden puts the Neo's directly into Nazi ideology.
Which is why I put support for these people into the support of terrorism, support that it's practicioners desire to become mainstream. And if that happens, what are the odds that they extend anything remotely resembling free speech to others. Historically it has been exactly opposite.
Perhaps my detractors will mod this up to 5 to show their support for free speech that offends them.

Re:It's just another fundraiser.
Now? The right wing have always accused the ACLU of having a liberal bias.
And you think that is "odd"?
The ACLU’s Communist, Atheist Roots
The ACLU’s untold Stalinist heritageThey aren't quite as bad as they started, but they still are trying to drive American society towards its vision, which is very different than that of the Founders.
Then again, I'm not sure there is anything they haven't accused of having a liberal bias.
I'm curious, have you even investigated to see if there might be anything to it?
Survey: 7 percent of reporters identify as Republican
Republicans’ media bias claims boosted by scarcity of right-leaning journalistsSurvey shocker: Liberal profs admit they’d discriminate against conservatives in hiring, advancement
Moving Further to the LeftLawyers are more liberal than general population, study finds; what about judges?
Do you think we need to cover unions? Civil servants?
And if you have the curiosity, you might find a surprise or two, or three.

Re: Technology can't stop these
http://www.westernjournalism.c...
Your simplistic view gives little information. It also makes little sense to compare the US to those other countries that have nothing like the mix of cultures the US has. When you compare the US to all of the other high HDI countries, the trend changes considerably.
So, the question that needs to be asked is why the countries selected are used in your chart? It is because it supports the message, not because they are somehow the "right" countries to use.
-
Re:That list...
Nobody cares if Taliban wants to call school teachers terrorists, because we know, and they know that's bullshit. We just care what they DO, and what they do is try to scare people into conducting their lives the way their religious say they should. Beard police! No dancing! Fly kites and die!
Indeed, a better example of relevancy probably comes from western perspectives about brainwashing in public > schools.
Why look to an outside group that is widely dismissed already, when you have ones here at home pushing their own message? The question is, who is full of bullshit?
PS, don't worry about the Colonies not having representation in the British Parliament, inhabitants of England didn't, even the rotten boroughs weren't eliminated for another few decades and true suffrage was even longer in developing.
Of course, the US has its own problems with representation today.

Re:Interesting findings; and related...
"Ignore the facts" meaning "healthy skepticism".
There's nothing "healthy" about your "skepticism". It is entirely one-sided and engineered to insulate your from inconvenient truths.
Like when the CRU at UEA was caught manipulating the numbers (and then conveniently "lost" them) ? Those facts?
I would refute your claims, except that you left out all specifics other than the target you wish you discredit with vague allegations, however, assuming you're referring to "climategate", eight separate investigations found that the claims you are repeating were invented bullshit based on quote-mining thousands of emails.
or the fact that the Polar Cap has more ice now than it should given Global Warming? (should be gone according to Al Gore!) Those facts?
More facts that aren't. Arctic ice losses are consistently out-pacing actual predictions, so there is less sea ice in the Arctic than the IPCC predicted there would be. Also, Al Gore (who is not a scientist) actually said that one study predicted ice could be gone in less than 22 years, and a second study by a U.S Navy researcher warned it could happen in as little as seven years.
Or the "starving polar bear" facts ?
What about starving polar bears?
Or any of the other 97.4% of the predictions gone wrong. Those facts?
http://www.westernjournalism.c...
Yea, a link to a conservative blog post written three years ago about a Fox News article about a Nature Climate Change article, is certainly evidence of something... It took me a while to find it, but the actual commentary article says that runs that they did of the CMIP5 models over-estimated warming from 1993 to 2012 according to the HadCRUT4 temperature data. So, it's 97.4% of the predictions from a single set of models as run by three researchers that are overestimating observed warming, and they then point out a number of reasons why that might be the case.

Hurricane Lull: http://www.livescience.com/507...

These are "facts", and the "speculation" from the "Global Warming" nuts is also clearly documented. Here are a few good articles on exaggerated claims that never panned out:

Re: Another reason to ban rifles
What makes a country a first world country to you?
Mexico is hardly a developing country, it is a developed country.
http://www.westernjournalism.c...
Comparing the US to first world countries is the primary means the Left uses to mischaracterize the argument, when you compare the US to the rest of the Americas, which is more accurate due to cultural differences between Europe and America (continent)
https://www.lewrockwell.com/as...
In that graph, the US looks pretty tame, and all of those countries are considered "developed" countries.
Also, on a side note, yes, that graph says the US has 115% gun ownership, there are 115 guns for every 100 people apparently in the US.
-
Re:So when's "gun control" going to stop guys with
http://www.westernjournalism.c...
Seriously, define developed.
Many people use OECD membership as developed, that includes Mexico, what do you define developed as?
Why would it make sense to lump the US with any of the countries you name but Canada? None of them are anything like the US, or many other countries, the nearest analog is the Americas, and among them, the US is pretty safe. Do any of the countries you named have any type of minority populations anywhere near what the US has? Do any of those countries have a former slavery issue? Do any of those countries have an ongoing drug war?
-
Re: So when's "gun control" going to stop guys wit
Comparing the US to far smaller and relatively non-diverse countries like Sweden or Australia on murder rate is a flawed process.

The usual leftist crap
> "Racial bias has to be operating, inequities are rampant. Discrimination does exist whether intentional or unintentional,"
Asserting doesn't make it so. If she had proof she wouldn't have needed the mealy-mouth phrase "has to be operating".
> she told the school board in May of this year. Ford found that both Hispanic and black students are underrepresented in gifted programs
> She also found that about half the seats in those programs go to higher-income students, even though the majority of the district is poor.Because a program truly oriented toward "gifted" children should be color-blind, and because white and/or higher-income households have a greater emphasis on school and success, especially compared with blacks and latinos, who are, by policy in most schools, advanced far beyond their competence by the myth that all outcomes must be equal, even when they aren't. What will happen is this program will be gutted, the money diverted in the name of "fairness", the gifted children will continue to be bored out of their minds at school, the blacks and latinos will still be told the system is rigged against them, and most of the diverted money will be donated to Democrats, 'cause, that's the way these things work..
How many times do we have to see this movie?
Tell me, people, when was the last time a white neighborhood erupted in violence, attacking and robbing local, white-owned businesses, because some black cop gunned down an unarmed white kid? The shootings happen, why not the violence? Why not the outrage? Why aren't Democrats defending the poor, downtrodden, white people being systematically murdered by "da man?"

Meanwhile, Seattle's unemployment rate currently stands at 3% and is poised to drop to 2% by the end of the year. My favorite restaurant (it's in the next building from my apartment) has extended its hours to 2am.
http://ycharts.com/indicators/...
The unemployment rate is going back up and has been for the past 3 months. It dropped at the same time it was dropping for the rest of the country,
Raising minimum wage would have a greater negative impact in places closer to the southern border where there are a greater pool of people to pay under the table at rates below even today's minimum wage.I have always been curious if educated people really see raising minimum wage as anything more than suckering poor people into feeling like that have more cash. When minimum wage increases, it just creates even more income inequality as the cost of living suddenly rises very quickly and all the people that were making 16 - 20 an hour are suddenly making less (well the same but that same money now has a lot less buying power as prices have just shot up on them.)

Orly?
"After years of being lambasted by the left as uneducated rubes, a recent study by a Yale law professor proves members of the Tea Party are actually more likely to understand scientific issues than is the rest of the population."

"Yale Law professor Dan M. Kahan was conducting an analysis of the scientific comprehension of various political groups when he ran into a shocking discovery: tea party supporters are slightly more scientifically literate than the non-tea party population.
When composing histograms of the scientific inference abilities of liberals and conservatives, he discovered that those who described themselves as tea party supporters came out pretty well, based on National Science Foundation standards of evaluation:"

Re:Unfortunately
Yes, as parents, you need to supervise your kids when they are little, and then you gradually allow them more freedom. It's called "growing up." But nowadays, people call the cops if they see a kid younger than 16 without a parent around, and CPS comes knocking.
You don't think that's extreme?
And it's getting more extreme.
http://www.westernjournalism.c...
The concept of Extended childhood has become pathological.
So you might need to add another 10 years onto the age where they can be taken away from you. To me, it is subtle abuse. Children as people will remain children as long as they are treated like children. And this is robbing them of years of adulthood. And I have to say, at least in my case, I enjoy adulthood a lot more than childhood.
I had completed my first education, had a good job and my first retirement plan by age 25. I fail to see how my remaining a child until that time would have helped either myself, my parents, or society in any way. Hell a lot of people are starting to get gray hair at 25.

Lots of Doctors Opting Out
About a quarter of the doctors in the USA are refusing to participate in Obamacare. http://www.westernjournalism.c... The reimbursements are about 40% of what private insurance pays. The deductibles are so high, and paid directly from patient to doctor, that doctors are concerned they will not be paid. What good is insurance if there is no doctor? When price is not the market-clearing mechanism, wait times fill that role.

Does this surprise everyone?
I find it still surprising that people in this country still seem amazed when the current administration ignores the orders of the courts or it's rulings? We used to have this system of checks and balances, but nowadays it seems that if the courts order something of the Obama administration, they ignore it. While I agree that the whole recent contempt vote on Holder was to prove a point, the justice department ignored it and now the Republicans have to go to the courts to seek justice. In that venue Obama and his cronies have a long track record in the past two years of ignoring the courts, essentially thumbing their noses at decisions that they don't agree with.
Here's a few examples:
http://blog.heritage.org/2011/02/22/judge-to-obama-administration-get-moving-on-drilling-permits/

http://www.tulsatoday.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3151:obama-ignores-qorder-to-appearq&catid=61:national&Itemid=109Oh and let's not forget this little piece of great writing by Holder to the Fifth Circuit Court. Basically it's a polite fuck you.
http://cache.abovethelaw.com/uploads/2012/04/Eric-Holder-response.pdf
If we are a nation of laws, then we have to obey those laws. This administration is now demonstrating that they will only respect those laws that meet with their agenda. I'm sorry, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or any damn party if you ignore the checks and balances that are framed in the constitution, then we no longer have a democracy, we have a dictatorship. Think about it. Nudeoscan 5000s, your e-mails being read without a warrant by the Feds (refer to previous slashdot article on that) and constant obstruction of requests from congress for records that they should have access to. I'm sorry, I think this country has reverted back to the time of Nixon and he swore he wasn't a crook.

Re:What's wrong with Warren Buffett?
When rich people give away excess money to charities, that does not absolve them of guilt for the actions that made them wealthy in the first place. Just because Bill Gates gives away a bunch of money, that doesn't excuse he got that money using illegal monopoly tactics. You can't get credit for giving away money that you stole from taxpayers in the first place.
In recent years in particular, Buffett's wealth has been acquired using insider information from his cronies in the White House, actions that would have resulted in jail time for a less connected investor. Here's the way the circle works:
- Buffett and Goldman Sachs contribute buckets of money to the democratic party and the Obama campaign.
- When Goldman was in risk of going under, Buffett invests $5B in them to keep them going. It was a no risk bet because Buffett's buddies let him know before the general public that GS was getting a bailout. Notes on that at Trade With The Ultimate Insider.
- Buffett publicly thanks the US government for bringing stability to the markets, by which he really means money in his company's pockets.
- All the borrowed money plus $1.6B divident profit flows back to Buffett within 3 years.
There's endless stories on this theme, including major trades around the US auto industry bailout too. I believe the most recent is the Keystone XL mess. Peter Schweizer's "Throw Them All Out" book has a whole section devoted to Warren Buffett's tricks where he abuses his political ties for profit. Here's a video segment from Schweizer summarizing that. Buffett's money is just as dirty as if he'd robbed you with a gun; don't like the kindly old man disguise fool you.
