Mobile carrier Helio was founded by known Scientologist Sky Dayton. Like Diskeeper's founder, Sky Dayton also abused his position to promote Scientology, but Sky was a bit more subtle about it. On two occasions an Exchange meeting invite for a presentation located in a conference room in Helio's corporate headquarters was sent to the entire company. The invitation read, "Sky Dayton has invited representatives from his prep school alma mater, the Delphian School in Oregon [...] to do a presentation..." and contained a personal endorsement of the school by Sky. Questions were to be directed to a Helio employee in the Human Resources department. A quick bit of research revealed that the Delphian School is one of Scientology's many front organizations. Sky Dayton's recruitment of employees' children to Scientology did not stop until an employee threatened to sue under the EEOC.

You don't want to work for a Scientologist. Before you accept a job offer, find out whether the company is run by them.

Want to get away with torture? How about murder? Just claim you're doing it for the Invisible Sky Guy, or to get rid of those pesky body thetans.

Want justice? Work for peace. Want peace? Kill your God.

Ooh, let's see...

There's the fact they separate their adherents from their families and then extract money from them.

There's the whole forced labour, separation from family and cruel punishment of children in their care thing (particularly look up Jenna Miscavige-Hill, neice of the current head of the CoS)

Umm, there's the fact that people have died in their care whilst being locked up and denied medical care

There's the fact that they have managed to get some state and national backing for their joke of a rehab scheme. Which, by the way, they claim is the most successful rehab scheme on the planet (without providing figures or evidence), whereas in fact its techniques basically involve a lot of the same psychological breakdown and cod science as scientology itself. This is sick, IMHO.

There's a lot of other stuff.

This is NOT about freedom of religion, or who believes what. This is about a dangerous organisation that have comitted felonies to try and wipe their record from government agencies and generally display a lack of respect for laws and lives, and yet is still in many coutries treated as a tax-exempt, legitimate religion.

Believe what the fuck you like, but you can't support the continued existance of the church of scientology.

"Oh, Scientology is not really any more far out than Christianity" (Subtext: this makes it "ok", it's like other bona fide religions and we let them stick around, right?)

I have heard this notion cast about for some time now, here at Slashdot and elsewhere, and it disturbs me that so many people miss the important point here. The issue is not whether Scientology is any weirder than other religions. Their bizarre beliefs are not in and of themselves the danger. The real danger is of the same kind we have seen before. It is very familiar, everyone here has probably read about it at one point or another, perhaps in a history book, or a newspaper.

And that danger is that to the average Scientologist the only hope for the world is through the philosophy of Scientology. It MUST be spread to every corner of the globe by whatever means necessary. Our society MUST be rewritten according to its standards and methods. And its current standards and methods are clear that any means are acceptable to reaching that end. ANY means. The laws, morals, ethics, etc. of the rest of the world are secondary and can be ignored if it means furthering the aims of Scientology.

THAT is the danger in a nutshell. As I have said, we have seen this sort of thinking before:

There are still other dangers to be considered as well. They turn people away from doctors, medicine and real mental help while giving pie-in-the-sky promises of curing all your problems (up to and including things like cancer, diabetes, schizophrenia, and homosexuality, which they consider a "mental illness"). Many have died believing Scientology would cure them.

Children of Scientologists are often denied education, either by being discouraged to go to college (and in many cases any non-scientologist school), or if the parent is a staff member (or if the child is), they may be forced into a Scientology children's organization of one sort or another where they will receive a substandard education, if any. In my experience (which others shared with me and I have found out is all too common elsewhere), I was recruited at a young age and told that my education would be provided for. I and all the other children at the location I was at were given a 4-5 hours a day in a classroom-like environment in which we were to pair off and study "whatever". There were math books, science books, books on spelling and such. But there was no teacher, no curriculum, no grades, no structure of any sort. Often the class was cancelled if we were needed for more important matters (meaning anything to do with Scientology's well-being). To get around this we were all instructed and trained in how to lie if the city sent someone by to check on conditions there, and we were to tell them that we were always getting our study in.


I understand that there are some similar practices in other religions as well. I oppose these too. Religions that forbid surgery or blood transfusions, those that sucker people into "faith healing", all are doing a tremendous disservice and must be opposed.

This is the sort of thing that Anonymous does normally, though. Anonymous was not created for this anti-scientology crusade.

I know. It wouldn't make any sense to do something awful and attribute it to an enemy if the action is not plausible. But from what I understand, Anonymous' targets have been people who "offended" them in some way, or people so loathed by the general public that the majority will not object.

Anonymous attacking the "Church" of Scientology makes sense. Anonymous attacking random epileptics does not. Also, it's worth remembering that most epileptics are dependent on pharmacological treatment, and the "Church" claims that they can treat epilepsy without drugs. They are wrong, of course and have a body count to prove it.

Plenty of govt agencies, politicians, mayors, companies, and schools have been duped into distributing Scientology propaganda by these groups.

Especially since it's clearly stated in $cientology's doctrines that it's OK to ignore the law whenever convenient, e.g. as part of the harassment of a "suppressive person" (critic.) Their extremely large and well-paid lawyer army lets them get away with murder, literally in some cases.

The fight against Scientology is not about censoring kooks. It's about judging people for kidnappings, wrongful deaths and murders, racketeering and what amounts to slavery.

If that so-called "mosque" was allegedly responsible for the deaths of several of their members, then yes, I would say you were justified in picketing.

He was picketing because of the death of Lisa McPherson. But you know that and now so do those who choose to read the links.

He was retired. Besides, he was picketing the "sad loonies" because they were allegedly responsible for the death of a young woman.

It is patently obvious that domain names are worth their MASS in gold, mass being a measure of the degree to which the domain name warps space-time about it. Massive (and therefore valuable) domain names attract web traffic effortlessly; it has been observed that some massive domains absorb apparantly endless amounts of energy, grossly increasing their value in gold.

Although earlier views held that this energy or effort, once absorbed, was gone forever, some very massive domains now appear to retain information in recoverable formats, with the attendant risk of uncontrolled release of dangerous amounts of information or its conversion into anti-information... but I digress...

Of course this is the same deposition where they tried to find out the real name of that evil 'majordomo' who was running all those anti-scientology mailing lists

Actually, they probably can, but have not yet adopted this tactic.

This is exactly what Scientology's OSA did to Dennis Erlich,
a former high-ranking Scientologist who started to discuss the
secret inner doctrines of Scientology on Usenet newsgroup
alt.religion.scientology sometime in 1994.

OSA went to a judge, alleged copyright violation, got an
ex parte writ of seizure, and ransacked Erlich's home,
tacking his computer and backups, and many paper documents
not covered by the writ.
