Re:Gee, maybe U.S. shouldn't try to steal oil
Iraq was heavily supported by the US in its war against Iran, including arming Iraq with chemical weapons and turning a blind eye to atrocities against Iran and its own people. When Iraq consulted the US about invading Kuwait they were told that "[The US] took no position on these Arab affairs", basically telling them it was ok to go ahead and invade.
Your conservative revision of history is appalling. You are the type of person who believes that the USA has never supported tyrants and has never taken part in unjustified aggression.
It's easy, quit threatening people and play nice with the world, quit having a childlike temper tantrum and pretending that you have only ever been a force for good in the world.

Transcript of *FULL* PBS interview with AssangeThe full transcript of the PBS interview with Julian Assange is online at:
http://wikileaks.ch/WikiSecrets-Julian-Assange-Full.html
If you watch the PBS interview then read the transcript of the interview to see what was really said and in what context.
PBS is alleged to have used and cut the interview to present Assange in an anti-American perspective.

Re:You can watch the FrontLine episode here
Frontline edited the story to be anti-Wikileaks.
The full transcript of the interview with Julian Assange is online via Wikileaks:

Then why does wiki leaks have stuff on Sigma Chi? http://www.wikileaks.ch/wiki/The_secret_Ritual_of_Sigma_Chi,_2002
Seems like Wikileaks likes to leak anything that is secret, even if it is just secrets of a club.

Re:This is the second way America tries to invade
It's amazing, really. Not only did they insist that the NZ government keep ACTA a secret from its people (all attendee's people, actually)
But they stepped in to assist in re-drafting the bill to make it more palatable & passable, for NZ legislators
and instructed the government to implement a new security force to enforce it, even offering to assist in its initial funding. All that's missing is an offer to have American troops enforce the law for them.

Re:Oh boy
They won't be getting it. Spreadshirt is like cafepress and sells stuff for everybody. It's also a german shop, so I doubt they hand out credit card info to anybody. Europe has quite tight regulations on that kind of thing.
But alternatively, you can mail the money

Re:Bitter from competition?
Ok I went there just now. Went to the about page and found... 0 references to Assange. On the front page, it has his picture as part of a banner... but amazingly nothing about the court case on Assange.
Er, are you sure you went to the right page?

Re:Nothing to see here
Dud, the idea of mass population reduction is not something I'd post if there wasn't more information I've come across. I.e. Chemtrails. I didn't believe it till I saw it myself going on and I even took some pictures of contrails being put down over Atlanta along with contrails in the same photos around 5pm. Later learned earlier that morning they were putting them down over North Carolina, apparently working west. Here is a video well done http://vimeo.com/16219493
Of the files in the wikileaks released archive of torrents http://wikileaks.ch/file/wikileaks_archive.7z is one on sterilization study and a few others catholic church related that are not available via torrents.
and there is more...
http://www.disclose.tv/action/viewvideo/56612/End_Game__Population_Reduction_Plans_/ and there are other videos as well on this. i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiFcGRmagmkI'm also quite aware that for some people, perhaps such as yourself, you cannot handle the truth or figure if you can't do anything about it them out of mind is better.

Re:Nothing to see here
Cable flow or not, the point has been communicated to the people.
Of the near 7 billion people on this planet, its some fraction of 1% screwing things up for the rest of us.
See: http://bit.ly/dRgM7b
However, what Wikileaks is sitting on and the next major thing to happen being the release of the pass code to the insurance file exposing this is...
(Yes it insane, but its what insane people do)
We have enough in knowledge, technology, man power and natural resources to support a human population size far greater than what we now have. The ONLY reason for mass reduction of the human population is the continuation of ELITISM!
It is population growth that leads to major changes in society.
It was population growth that lead to the breakdown of the bicameral mind (Julian Jaynes and the metaphor of the tower of babel) and it was population growth that overcame the limitations of non-zero mathematic as people simply started using the Hindu-Arabic decimal system, zero inclusive, regardless of the Roman sponsored Roman Numeral system. It is population growth that drives us to advancement.
It is population growth that overcomes false constraints.
It is population growth that is overcoming Elitism. There are near 7 billion people on this planet and some fraction of one percent that is of the controlling elite that don't need to exist.
This fact is becoming known to the population (via wikileaks and the likes) and as such is a threat to the Elite. They will mass kill to continue their position.
Those of Elitism suffer from mental disease that lacks morals and ethics and intelligence but instead pursue the skill of deception and force through the manipulation of others.
The basic tool of the deceivers is their skill at abstraction manipulation. Words....
Prior to the breakdown of the bicameral mind, man was without sin, or better stated "guilt" as man was unable to think in terms of higher level abstraction and was incapable of introspection.
But then population growth created a need to create consciousness and higher level abstractions, Languages beyond first level abstraction. The side effect of doing this was the discovery of introspection and deception.
The bicameral mind had its advantages of being far better in touch with nature. Like how birds can seasonally fly back and forth to the same locations, how crabs know to move inland prior to a flooding storm, etc...
During that transition there was the use of "oracles" as the go between. Even today we still have some of these, such as Edgar Cayce and many other unknown "readers".
We are again at the threshold of a transition, where those who want to maintain their elite positions of "control" are becoming outdated and ineffective, exposed to the population. Their only defense is to reduce the population. If they succeed, they will eventually have to do it again, and again..... until they are stopped and their power of deception stripped from them.
How do you strip the power of deception from those who use it? Its really quite simple. You learn to fully understand the usefulness and LIMITATIONS of Abstractions. Then you are able to judge whether or not the abstractions used actually get you from where you are (point A) to where you want to go in a manner that at the very least causes no harm to others, at the very best improves life for all... (point B). If it does not then the abstractions are verified deceptive.
Bait and switch? This shows a lack of integrity. Honesty does not have a lack of integrity.
We have plenty "Elite" who have shown such a lack of integrity. They need to be stripped of their ability to command anyone. Laws or bills they have passed to be nulified and re-evaluated for honest intent.
Genuinely, the only defense the Elite (the deceptive) have is massive population reduction.
Sometimes its not what you see, but what you don't see. Which files have torrent links in the http://wikileaks.ch/file/wikileaks_archive.7z but are unavailable?

Re:Successful censor is successful.
The focus on Assange is deliberate - to distract people from the message, the contents of the cables.
WikiLeaks revealed the presence of a CIA contact at the Danish newspaper that published the infamous Mohammed as Dog cartoon. The US 'enouraged' the suppression of a repeat publication - suggesting that they would have been pre-warned about the original publication, and were happy with that and the predictable consequences arising.
Who is the spy at Jyllands-Posten? Who is the equivalent at the Guardian?

Re:Hahaha
If various sites associated with Zanu-PF, such as the Herald could be hacked to republish the allegedly libelous cable:
2. (C) On November 6, poloff met with Andrew Cranswick, the
CEO of African Consolidated Resources (ACR), the
publicly-traded British firm that had its Chiadzwa diamond
claim in the Marange district of Manicaland seized by the
government parastatal Minerals Marketing Corporation of
Zimbabwe (MMCZ) in 2006 (reftel). According to Cranswick,
there is a small group of high-ranking Zimbabwean officials
who have been extracting tremendous diamond profits from
Chiadzwa. Cranswick said that RBZ Governor Gideon Gono,
Grace Mugabe, wife of President Robert Mugabe, Vice President
Joyce Mujuru, Mines and Mining Development Minister Amos
Midzi, General Constantine Chiwenga and wife Jocelyn, CIO
Director Happyton Bonyongwe, Manicaland Governor Chris
Mushowe, and several white Zimbabweans, including Ken Sharpe,
Greg Scott, and Hendrik O,Neill, are all involved in the
Marange diamond trade.source, then some good might come out of this. But DDOS is such a blunt instrument.

Re:Mugabe
But Lord High Julian never made a mistake
The cable was published December 8th while Julian Assange was in jail awaiting an extradition hearing. It was released by some other member of Wikileaks. Assange is the public face of Wikileaks. Pointing fingers at Assange is like blaming White House press secretary Robert Gibbs when he tells you Obama's position on a topic, except in this case it would be like blaming Gibbs while he is on vacation and someone else is filling in for him.

Re:News For Nerds
Isn't that what the various inter-bank electronic transfer systems do? I can transfer money to any UK account for free, and any account worldwide for a fee. The fee (£10 or so) is so high I've never used it though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SWIFT
Of course, these aren't anonymous, and as I understand it most banks charge for transactions in a different currency and/or country.
Using the online form linked from here ("Online Transfer via selected European and UK banks") should use this system, but doesn't work with either of my accounts -- I think because they're both in £ but the destination account is in €.
The Assange Defence Fund is held in a UK £ account (details at the top of the Support page), so I can donate to that easily (the same way I pay my rent, etc). But I'd rather donate to Wikileaks.

Vote for 2600, Wikileaks, and cDc as regulators
I'd vote for Indymedia, 2600, Wikileaks, Pirate Bay, Pirate Parties International, the EFF, FSF, and cDc communications to regulate the Internet. And Open Meshshould be the direction of growth. Ok then, we aren't going to get to coordinate "The Internet", we'll settle for The ParallelNet. There's enough geeks for it.

Re:Exhaustion of land under libertarianism
It works for me.
For me, it gets transparently redirected to mirror.wikileaks.info, which Spamhaus has warned against (apparently hosted by a suspect entity). http://it.slashdot.org/story/10/12/18/1738207/Spamhaus-Under-DDoS-Over-Wikileaksinfo.
That site appears quite different to wikileaks.ch which is the new official site, and is not included on the list of mirrors of wikileaks at http://wikileaks.ch/Mirrors.html. -
Mirrors
There are already over 2000 Wikileaks mirrors, so it's going to next to impossible to shut it down in the first place.

Re:Overthinking it
The Military Option: Bushehr is not Osirak:
the GOI does not know where all of the targets are located
potential targets are well dispersed throughout the country, with several located in built-up civilian areas
any attack on Bushehr would likely result in Russian casualties and endanger Moscow's cooperation

wikileaks.info vs wikileaks.ch
The links below have been reported to contain Malware, so don't click without reading first.
I'm confused. wikileaks.org redirects to mirror.wikileaks.info. That page looks like WikiLeaks did a year ago (a simple MediaWiki site), but it has up-to-date content. Meanwhile, the official domain we have had for the past fortnight, wikileaks.ch is still running and serving the "new look" which seems to just have the cablegate stuff.
mirror.wikileaks.info links to wikileaks.ch if you click on cablegate. They also claim this is a false spam report; the spam report claims that "Wikileaks.info is NOT connected with Julian Assange or the Wikileaks organization" and that "We also note that the content at mirror.wikileaks.info is rather unlike what's at the real Wikileaks mirrors which suggests that the wikileaks.info site may not be under the control of Wikileaks itself, but rather some other group." (Fair enough; it does claim to be a mirror.)
So is wikileaks.info a malware site or a legitimate WikiLeaks mirror? I'm all for WikiLeaks mirrors, but it seems like the main wikileaks.org domain should link to the main website, not a very different mirror. And if wikileaks.info is a malware site, where do you go to get all the other WikiLeaks content from the old site (it doesn't seem to be available anymore from wikileaks.ch)?

Wilkileaks on Guantanamo
Some of the cables shed light on why closing down Guantanamo is so hard. The US has some captured Kuwaitis, and Kuwait doesn't want them back. Kuwaiti Minister of Interior Shaykh Jaber al-Khalid Al Sabah: "If they are rotten, they are rotten and the best thing to do is get rid of them. You picked them up in Afghanistan; you should drop them off in Afghanistan, in the middle of the war zone." About a group of Iranian drug smugglers the US had captured after their boat foundered, he said "God meant to punish them with death and you saved them. Why?"

Assange is going to come out of this a hero
Assange is going to come out of this a hero. The "rape charge" is already falling apart. The press is now mostly supporting Assange. Give it a week, and there will be calls for resignations of some Government officials.
Some of his opponents are already in trouble. One of the "commentators" calling for calling for Assange to be killed is now the subject of a complaint that he was inciting to commit murder.
Meanwhile, Wikileaks remains online, and response times are good.

United States - Visa and Mastercard beneficiaries of State Department lobbying effort
Visa and Mastercard both received lobbying support from the Department of State under President Obama, the latest Cablegate release reveals.
A cable from the Moscow embassy, dated 1st February 2010, details a new Russian card processing law which the embassy said would “disadvantage U.S businesses”, and urged senior US officials to take action. (click here).
“This draft law continues to disadvantage U.S. payment card market leaders Visa and MasterCard, whether they join the National Payment Card System or not,” it said.
Russia was considering whether to implement a new system of card payments (called NPCS), which would create a new payment processor run by Russia’s state banks. This would then handle all processing for domestic banking in the country.
“The fees for these services are estimated at Rb 120 billion ($4 billion) annually...the vast majority of Visa’s business in Russia is done with cards issued and used in Russia; with earnings from processing going to NPCS, Visa would no longer profit from these transactions.”
When discussing possible causes of the restrictive legislation, a senior Visa employee in the country told embassy officials he believed the move was due to Russian suspicions that Visa and Mastercard passed information to the US government.

Re:why mastercard?
By the way, wikileaks seems quite resilient. Seems pretty easy to establish a mirror: http://wikileaks.ch/mass-mirror.html ; and there are LOTS of them right now: http://wikileaks.ch/mirrors.html If somone were to make a small linux distro with even easier wikileaks mirror setup, it would become tantalizingly close to impossible to bring it down. But it would have to be someone with good computer science skills; where would you find these people nowadays?

not symbolic at all, rather clear
Let's start with this: government is the shadow cast by business over society (Dewey or Adam Smith, I think). So when WikiLeaks publishes military and political documents (the middlemen between people and corporations), the embarrassed use minor tactics. Distractions, like attacking the messenger (e.g. Assange) and statements about how publishing might put a few people in sensitive positions at risk (ignoring the fact that the Afghanistan and Iraq wars put millions of people at actual risk).
Publishing documents (i.e. cables containing the business motives for international relations and the forthcoming bank documents) from those with real power? That's unacceptable. Time to make reading off limits to the rule followers, remove finances and publishing (hosting) structures for those remaining who might read banned material, then declare the messenger a terrorist and execute.
This is better, and worse, than any dystopian book.
