Re:Good and Stop Reviving Them When They OD
I live in Detroit. There is not a homeless problem.
There are not needles in the street.
I have a nice car and it has never been stolen or broken into,
Because it didn't happen to you, it's not happening? Oh, okay.
The "whole society is sick" is limited to where you live (and perhaps some other places).
Yeah, like you. Not just where you live, but you.

Re:Maybe in a different country
You don't need a gun at your nightstand, it's never going to be a matter of seconds that saves you.
You do realize that when you make a statement like that, it takes only a single counterexample to prove you wrong?
Or this: "Police said Henry broke into the house and began to attack Moreno until her daughter, Jayda Milsap, 11, shot Henry twice with a handgun." Now there's a story about kids and guns you probably didn't see on the news. If this mom had kept her gun locked so her daughter couldn't get to it, they both might be dead now.
So I'm sorry to inform you of this, but when it comes to violent crime the world does not work the way you think that it does. When an armed person is suddenly and without prior warning in your home, you are in a combat situation. And in a combat situation, seconds matter.
Whether the risk of being prepared for such a situation does or does not outweigh the risks of having an unlocked gun around depends on your risk of home invasion, who lives in the house, who visits the house, and so on. A universal assessment is impossible. But in making the choice you need to be aware that there is a tremendous selection bias in the stories that are covered in the media: defensive firearms use does not receive nearly the coverage that the accidental shooting of a kid does, but is orders of magnitude more common.

Re:I wish "you" would drop dead
You are the person that Bloomberg has spent 50 million to protect the children of the US against this year. There is a reason that parents are just getting fed up with the gun nuts. Look at Europe. Only the military and police have guns, and crime is 1/10 of what it is here. Venezuela enacted a country wide gun ban, and violent firearm crime dropped by 1/1000. People like you are why the SAFE act and other lesligation to protect children has been enacted.
Each of those European States are only 1/10 the population of all 50 of the American States. In recent times, Ireland wasn't too happy about England's police and their guns for more than a century; neither was Europe's ten million and Russia's 20 million defenseless deaths a few decades ago. Canada & Australia populations are about half that of California. Unlike the U.S., the island states of Japan and Great Britain have had centuries of unilateral culturalism--only a century or so for Canada's and Australia's 20 million white people.
Mom Protects Her Children from Armed Home Invasion
Oldster Gunman Stops Armed Cafe Robbery. The gun deaths in the States, most were suicides, self defense and some stupid accidents. Stop blaming others for not taking care of your children.

Re: Who chose to pursue this case?
As for the sperm party, the point of the party is so that the mom can honestly say she doesn't know who the possible father is. As for DNA having a damn thing to do whether or not you can get ordered to pay child support, that is an urban legend.
I'm not sure your if trolling or ignorant, but I'll bite for the people that could be misled into thinking actually biological fatherhood would have anything to do with child support. Many states do not give the father any opportunity to challenge paternity. If your married, named by the mother and don't receive the summons to court in time or even simply live with a woman long enough you can be ordered to pay child support. There are countless examples of men who have been ordered to pay child support for a child that isn't there's.

Re:BOGUS STORY
Well, maybe they didn't use the word "bad", but apparently close enough:
According to the child's grandmother, a state agent took away the girl's homemade lunch and replaced it with school cafeteria chicken nuggets. The girl later told her family that she only ate three of the nuggets. When asked to explain, the agent reportedly told the child that her lunch wasn't "nutritious" and "didn't meet USDA guidelines."

Re:Despicable
The mother was NOT charged. She received a form letter, sent to all parents, that the school might start charging for extra food given to students at some point in the future. However, since she is voluntarily enrolled in a program for poor parents, she would be exempted from paying regardless.
Please stop repeating these right-wing, scaremongering lies.
Um, stop calling the truth "right-wing, scaremongering lies."
The story is legit. It really happened. Do a little research before you go off the handle accusing others of lying or else you might find out that you are one lying.
http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/childs-lunch-allegedly-taken-by-teacher-told-it-wasnt-healthy-enough
Oh, and those chicken nuggets were provided because the meal was missing milk. That's right! All it was missing was milk. There is no milk in chicken nuggets. The is milk in cheese, however, which was one of the primary ingredients in the child's turkey and CHEESE sandwich.

Re:Despicable
However did the parent actually say this? So far the school has said no one is being charged for the food. Original pseudo-journalist probably just making a bunch of stuff up, the mother is angry and shouting about having to pay (there is a hint in the rules of the voluntary program that they might have to pay for extra food the child takes).
The story has been corroborated by the Hoke County Assistant Superintendent.

It appears that it wasn't the "pseudo-journalist" just making a bunch of stuff up. I can't say the same for you.

Re:Despicable
.... not so much the fact that this may have happened, but the fact that slashdot put it on the front page. This story has set the conservative blogosphere alight over "obama's nanny state" and what have you while overlooking one huge glaring problem here...
They are taking the word of a four year old kid to be god's-own-truth. I'm not saying she's intentionally lying, but how many reliable four year olds have you met in your life time? There could well be a very large gap between what she was told and what she thought she heard, and yet another between what she did and what she told her parents.
Would you take the word of the Hoke County Assistant Superintendent Bob Barnes?
School district officials say the agent was conducting a required visit that included checking to see if students had healthy meals.
The Hoke County Assistant Superintendent Bob Barnes agreed that the lunch was healthy, but says it was missing milk, a key part of what is considered to be a healthy meal under state guidelines. Now say you are sorry! Turns out those over reactionary conservative bloggers got one right, and it's the one you called them on.
Oh, and what did they give the child that was missing milk? Chicken Nuggets! It should also be noted that the girl's sandwich was made of turkey and cheese. Can anyone tell me what cheese is made of?

Detroit is a disaster. The voters are responsible.
Perhaps if Detroit wasn't run by a corrupt mayor it's public schools system would be in better shape. Why do African Americans refuse to hold their elected officials accountable when they have clearly committed serious crimes? Marion Barry, William Jefferson, Kwame Kilpatrick and the list goes on. It's a real problem in Detroit going back to the Coleman Young days. Detroit voters would rather stick it to the suburbs by rallying around whichever black candidate paints the other black candidate as being white and in the end the only thing they end up sticking it to is themselves.
Don't believe me? Check out Kwame's State of the City speech and then try and tell me that he isn't trying to rally ignorant African American voters to his side by placing the race card. Read the text messages between himself and the women he was cheating with his wife on. The only person calling Kwame a "nigga" was his mistress.

Brownies anyone?
Perhaps eating it will help.
BTW, anyone can get breast cancer. It doesn't have to do with boobs, it has to do with estrogen.
Guys and gals have both estrogen and testosterone.
So guys too might be able to benefit by eating magic brownies as well. Just do not eat too many and call 911 (especially if you are a cop. -
All politics is local...
The Represenative who introduced this is from Michigan. Google just announced plans this week to build a new center (data center? unknown) in Ann Arbor. Coincidence? I think not.
