There's many more connections between Clinton and Russia than Trump. If your big concern in the election is that you don't want someone who might be influenced by Putin in the White House then you should stay far away from Clinton.

BLM's stance is for peaceful protest, they do not condone rioting.

Funny how all their people show up dressed for riots and then the protests turn into riots, though. It's almost as if saying "we don't condone rioting" is just a smokescreen. I'm reminded of this.

Tim Cook should encourage Apple's top hw and sw executives to speak their minds, and then listen to them. If they say, "Tim, that looks pretty but I wouldn't buy it because it's not practical", then Cook should have the design changed, so that the execs would want to buy it.

About 15 years ago, Apple put out a new laptop computer (the TiBook?), and released a video about the design process. In the video, one of the engineers who worked on it said something like, "Steve didn't give us many instructions. He just told us to design the best laptop computer in the world." They designed a laptop that they themselves wanted to use. And they put out a very popular and successful computer.

I can't find that video, but I did find this one. At 2:30, a customer says, "Well, forget about gorgeous. It's a G4. And it's five pounds. And it's got a five-hour battery life." He wanted that computer, not because of its looks, but because of its features and what it could do.

Similarly, when Apple was designing the iPod, the design team created an portable music player that the team members wanted to use, and they put out a very popular product.

Tim Cook should do the same thing. He should tell the people who design the next Mac hw or sw to design hw and sw that they would love and want to use.

Unless that bill repealed all fees on physical media - passed to "pay" for "piracy" - then Canadians are getting DVDA'ed by the corporations.

Yes, it's true that she was forced to defend that guy. Normal people aren't complaining about that part, just about how she did so.

See, Hillary laughed when interviewed about it. It's on the tape. That doesn't count according to Snopes because "she did not laugh about the case's outcome." They say she was just chuckling a few times, for example when saying she mistrusted polygraph results because they would've indicated her client wasn't guilty. Snopes, please tell us, why is the rape of a 12-year-old funny at all? Should we just ignore that Hillary has a rather morbid sense of humor?

Hillary implied that her client was guilty by her mistrust of the polygraph results where he was telling the "truth" about not raping the girl. But Snopes will summarize this as "she did not claim she knew the defendant to be guilty." Right, she only implied guilt based on inside knowledge that she should hold in confidence as an attorney. That's only a highly unethical violation of her attorney client privilege to imply things like this. But it's okay! She only mistrusts polygraphs--like the one she had him take and which he passed--because of this case with this man. She didn't come out and say he's guilty! It's not like you'd have to be an idiot to fail to understand the clear implication. Nothing to see here!

They say "she did not assert that the complainant "made up the rape story,"" instead they point out that she just put forth an anonymous source who allegedly told her the girl was "emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men and to engage in fantasizing about persons, claiming they had attacked her body." This kind of defense is exactly why we have rape shield laws nowadays--because people got fed up with this scummy tactic being used by defense lawyers and outlawed it. Yes, she may have some excuse of professional obligation there--this turns into a murky legal question. But morally? People thought this was such a disgusting, hurtful way to attack rape victims that it's been outlawed. Please let that sink in for a moment. It's true that she may be legally correct here. But how can you defend that kind of thing morally? [1]

So the thing is they really do massage how they frame the articles, which "facts" or formulations thereof they try to debunk--picking strawmen to attack when it suits their claims, and then they make summaries that are misleading. It's a more subtle form of bias with the intent to mislead, but it's clear enough if you actually read everything and do your own research. They simply don't expect anyone to actually bother to read things and I hate to say it, but they're usually right that people won't.

They know they can't win a lightning war. Their strategy, if you care tor read any of their literature, is explicitly one of long-term attrition to sway public opinion.

Their strategy is to alienate Muslims and Christians as much as possible so that the Muslims all join the caliphate. And there is no long term plan right now, they're doing everything they can to stave off complete collapse. If they had the capability to launch an attack in Canada they would have.

But there is also a much more latent threat of pissed-off second and third generation immigrants, which worryingly enough often tend to be much more prone to jihadi ideology. If those 25k have fairly large families and 1% of their children are involved in some form of nastiness (not necessarily overtly violent) as a result of their conservative upbringing combined with their resentment for the Iraq War or western support of that dirty Shiite Assad... we're still talking about something on the order of a thousand troublemakers here, a thousand people doing things to embolden the right.

So don't alienate those second and third generation immigrants by suggesting the Muslims are a dangerous "other" and fundamentally predisposed to terrorism.

Incidentally, as a Canadian, you should be outraged by the way Tarek Fatah was treated by your senator Mitchell, and I suspect he was not alone in that attitude amongst your left. The most nauseating and damaging thing the "progressive" left has done (mostly in the UK, but to some extent in the New World as well) is to imply that only vilely conservative Muslims are "true" Muslims.

I haven't followed this and I can't view the video right now. But in general my philosophy is that while some people have a highly unusual interpretation of Christianity/Islam/Judaism, no one who considers themselves a Christian/Muslim/Jew is anymore "true" than anyone else.

That's why you need to rely on tone and subtext.

The tone and subtext is cynical populism tinged with narcissism combined with an inability to properly phrase things to clearly illustrate his intended focus.

So if it's just populism and narcissism then why are self-identified white nationalists acting like he's their saviour? Why are his rallies filled with people shouting incredibly racist things without getting shut down by the rest of the attendees?

They're not imagining things. Does he realize how racist his campaign is? I don't know. But it's a real phenomena.

I don't know how racist he is personally, though he does have a long history of racially questionable statements and actions.

This new low-level McCarthyism is extremely damaging. Don't weaken the word racism like that. There used to be words like "insensitivity" or even "political incorrectness" to describe people who weren't actually racist but just didn't care about carefully mincing words to describe their position, but it's all gone by the wayside. They're all "racists" now, and this weakening of the term has emboldened millions of actual racists.

That's a legitimate concern. I think there is something we can call racial anxiety, basically a fear that a bunch of people from another ethnicity and another culture are going to come in and fundamentally change your community.

I think that's what's driving most of Trump's base. But there's also stuff that I'd consider straight racism. He himself might be more oblivious than racist, but that doesn't mean he's not making racist statements.

Yep they apparently didn't learn from history and went and created the F-111 all over again, a plane that was supposed to "do it all" and ended up sucking at everything.

And is anybody else getting the feeling we are becoming the Germans in WWII? The A-10 can typically loiter in an area for over 2 hours. The F-35 can typically provide CAS for two minutes - if you change the definition of CAS to include long range engagements.

Two A-10s can put ordinance on target every 12 seconds. One can paint the target while the other fires. A-10s can also take a brutal beating. One returned from Desert Storm with 378 holes. All of this is accomplished on a very small budget compared to the F-35.

That being said, the A-10 is not an air superiority jet. Fighters need to secure the skies before the A-10 can get to work. The F-35, if it eventually works, will wipe out enemy aircraft while presenting a minimal radar signature.

I was hoping Mr. Sanders could steer the nation to a better path and I think that may happen if we can fix campaign financing.

Sanders is an honest fool, and as such, he appeals to other fools. If Sanders were to come to power, either he'd be an ineffective court jester while other politicians continued their corrupt ways, or he'd come around and start paying off special interest groups and fool himself into believing that anything is justified to keep a "good guy" like him in power; that's the way Hillary has chosen.

Rules for rulers probably isn't completely accurate, but it gives you the gist of how people get into, and stay in, power, and it applies to Sanders as well. And the more we move away from a self-reliant, individualistic culture, the more oppressive our government will become, for the simple reason that the more rewarding it gets for rulers to concentrate money and power.
