New Years Marathons

So for those of us who don't go "Out" for holidays and prefer sitting on our asses, the extended TV theme Marathon is something of a tradition. Besides obvious choices like watching all the Star Wars movies, what sorts of marathon tv endurance tests are people planning? Buffy, Angel, Twin Peaks, Iron Chef? What are you gonna do?

I'll be watching every episode of the classic 'The Prisoner'

  2. Music Marathon by jlower · · Score: 4, Informative

971 songs loaded in the iPod, iPod plugged into the stereo, iPod set to 'random' play.

Hot tub is hot, crank up the volume, break out the booze, unwrap the fireworks. 15 or so good friends show up & suddenly it's a party!

  3. Pick Nose and Watch Grass Grow by Anonymous Coward · · Score: 0, Informative

I'm going to sit on the front lawn with a flashlight picking my nose and watching the grass grow.

  4. College Football, what else is there? by hubie · · Score: 2, Informative

This is truely the best time of the year. Five games (Humanitarian, Sun, Silicon Valley Classic, Liberty, and Peach) on today, and eight more in the coming few days.

  5. Kurosawa films by LT4Ryan · · Score: 2, Informative

I'll be watching my collection of classic Akira Kurosawa films: Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, High and Low...and yes, The Magnificent Seven. While technically not a Kurosawa film, it is based on the Seven Samurai story, and come on, who can resist Charles Bronson and Yul Brenner kicking Mexican ass?

And to stay within the "marathon" spirit:

"In late April and early May 2002, during Mercury's best appearance of the year, all five naked-eye planets are visible simultaneously in the westernevening sky."

Taken from some random astro calendar. Some Googling should uncover other sources of information.

  7. Since my ex has our son this New Years'... by webwench_72 · · Score: 5, Informative

Yahoo has good TV listings. Amazing what they will marathon on New Years' Day:

    ESPN: World's Strongest Man competition
    TLC: Seeing is Believing
Comedy Channel: Whose Line Is It, Anyway?
    A&E: Magnum PI until 8 p.m., then Law & Order until 4 a.m.
Animal Channel: The Crocodile Hunter (starting at 5 p.m.)
    Sci-Fi Channel: The Twilight Zone
History Channel: History's Lost & Found

Since my ex has our son this New Years', and my other of unknown significance left town yesterday, I'll be at home on my a** looking for a good TV marathon.

Alias would be a good one (since I missed most of the episodes), and so would Trading Spaces. I've already had Buffy DVD marathon, so no luck there. Failing these, I'll probably be continuing on the kitchen work that I've been procrastinating on -- touching-up, sanding, and priming drywall, then painting. Whoop-de-doo!

  8. Red Dwarf on UKTV by purplemonkeydan · · Score: 4, Informative

UKTV in Australia are running a marathon of Red Dwarf. I imagine all the Foxtel-equipped geeks would be watching that.

    Me ... I'm having a sleep marathon.
