Kathleen Fent Read This Story
Kathleen, I wanted to do this in this most potentially embarassing way
possible, and I figured doing it here and now, in front of a
quarter of a million strangers
was as good a way as any. I love you more then I can describe within
the limits of this tiny little story. We've been together for many years
now, and I've known for most of that time that I wanted to spend my
life with you. Enough rambling. Will you marry me? Update
15 minutes 30 seconds later: Subj: "Yes", message body: "Dork. You made me cry. :)"
Hazah! I'm getting married!
:)
If you're under 25, Rob, you shouldn't be in such a hurry!
[ insert your own witty .sig here ]
How cool is that! Good thing you didn't attach a link to her, or she would be slashdotted! Oh wait, she probably is!
{And I was just going to send flowers to my GF}
Damn! I wish I had saved a couple of my moderator points. This would be a good thread to use them.
It's a question: Shouldn't this have gone under "Ask Slashdot?" :)
Good luck, Taco...
Now stop stalking me!
Celebrate the ruthless slaughter of 14 gangsters! the heart pumps blood and blood is red and red is the color of romance and roses are usually red and the Massacre shed a lot of blood!
GO CAPONE!
Informative? Of course. Insightful? Absolutely. But Troll? Overrated! That's blasphemy! I demand, demand that those moderators have their privliges revoked!
After lurking for many years, I've finally seen a post worthy of making a comment on.
Congratulations.
Many other females might prefer the "traditional" medthod of proposing, but I liked this way best.
Besides, I think it takes more guts to propose in front of all the flamers, don't you?
Offtopic, posting from the UK - was the musical Buffy episode that bad?
I'm just getting into buffy, I've seen 'bout half the first season, some of the "best" episodes, (Hush etc...) and most of the latest season. If you're into the story this season at all, for gods' sake watch the musical episode.
- Dave
LOL...Obviously you do if you spent the time to post a comment on a subject you don't care about???
Am I the only one who thinks this comment is funny? Are you some chick that Cmdr Taco snubbed like years ago and you have been jealously tracking his movements ever since?
Same thing with Katz, if you don't care, don't read it and don't get involved in the topic!
ZERO ZERO ONE ZERO ONE ZERO ONE ONE! Just brushing up for my next big invention: Ethernet over Voice (EoV)
The sex on Buffy has been one thing - episode filler. Look at the themes that Suprise/Innocence managed to plumb without wasting 5 minutes an ep with the details. I just get the sense that the Buffy/Spike scenes are there to make the writers life easier, along with the "everyone look moody while a song plays" scene.
Having said that, I loved the musical.
The Musical episode was immensely entertaining and original.
I remember Xena beating them to it.
Thats one of the more hateful things Ive ever read. Prick.
Honesty may be the best policy, but apparently by elimination, dishonesty is the second best policy.
Oh puh-lease, This is SO much darker than Angel/Buffy ever were, and being explicit is NECESSARY. (see how my caps convince you!) It only highlights the naughtiness of it all. Filler? Just admit it, it makes you uncomfortable, which is 1/2 of what the writers want you to feel. The other 1/2 is turned-on, cause, hey, they're both sexy-as-all-hell and the sex has been QUITE risque. Angel and Buff wern't twisting sexuality around on it's head, they were playing out a metaphore, girl gives it up, boy turns bad, sex has consequences (a theme admittedly played out a little too often on the show). I don't understand your last sentence.
Well you just ruined that episode for uk readers. Luckily I am up to date with the US because of p2p networks ;)
graspee, UK
I fucking hate you Cmdrtaco.
and, of course, you're going to get an offtopic moderation for daring to post a 'who modded this down?' I gave up on the whole moderation thing when they took away my metamoderation (and presumably moderation) abilities after I modded "The Post" They're a bunch of self-important nancyboys who have no reason to fix a system that encourages their sycophantic followers to maintain their twisted status quo.
This post is dedicated to the day when the Star Faction story disappears from the Hall of Fame.
I doubt we'll pass it though.
That's the problem with crapflooders these days, no dedication.
The word "Pointless" has questionable usefulness in the context of posting on slashdot.
Nevertheless, I salute your dedication !
W000000000T!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, rare. We all know how uncommon .MPEG and .JPEG are... Not to mention .DivX
Slashdot gets worse every day... Pipedot: News for nerds, without the corporate slant
This entire article is full of many Anonymous Coward posts which are utterly meaningless.
Yet the one that gets the -1 is the one that happens to be in a foreign language.
I sense some Xenophobia around here. At least this foreigner didn't want Osama bin Laden at the top the HOF. The moderator, however, should be interned in Cuba immediately.
Maybe. But even if this thread goes to the top of the HOF, Osama bin Laden will still have three stories on that page. If Love is to replace Terrorism on the HOF, then Cowboy Neal and the rest of the crew better get crackin' !
I misspelled "guantanamo" as "guano" on purpose.
Speaking of K & R, have you ever noticed that Kernighan, Ritchie, RMS, and Alan Cox all look alike ?
There is no story in common amoung the top ten most visited and the top ten most posted to.
Top ten most visited is an entirely different genra of story. It is the kind of thing people tell each other about and people who never read slashdot immediately must see.
Where as, the most-posted-to stories are the ones that get the slashdot regulars riled up or excited in some way.
From www.m-w.com:
/-"lA-t&r/ noun /-l&-"tOr-E, -"tor-/ adjective
congratulate
Pronunciation: k&n-'gra-ch&-"lAt, -'gra-j&-
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): -lated; -lating
Etymology: Latin congratulatus, past participle of congratulari to wish joy,
from com- + gratulari to wish joy, from gratus pleasing --
Date: 1539
1 archaic: to express sympathetic pleasure at (an event)
2: to express vicarious pleasure to (a person) on the occasion of success or good fortune; also : to feel pleased with
3 obsolete: SALUTE, GREET
- congratulator
- congratulatory
We are getting closer, very close.
A spasm of crapflooding or a flame war could do it now.
Keeping it going !
Attempts to look at the HOF page to confirm how close we are to #3 (Yeah baby ! Love and peace over Osama and terrorism !) just gave a blank page.
Comments ? Even if you have nothing to add, any comment posted here is anti-Terrorism !
Hear hear !
I could not have said it better.
In fact, I can't, so I'll just quote the previous poster (I wouldn't want that beautiful prose being lost to posterity just because Slash doesn't archive AC posts):
" It's quite shocking to me that people are still wading through a 2000+ post story and marking things 'offtopic'. If you've ever had a conversation that didn't vary in topic over the course of an entire week, then you are a depressingly boring person. But that's not surprising if you spend all of your free time on slashdot looking for comments to mod down. In case you haven't noticed, a new topic has emerged. Any comment posted to this story since 3 days ago that *isn't* blatant crapflood filler with the sole purpose of pushing the story up a notch in the Slashdot Hall of Fame is now offtopic. We are on a mission. Whether or not we 'congratulate' rob and kathleen in the course of completing our mission is incidental. Modding us down will not slow our progress, but in doing so you show yourself to be against the mission. As pointed out in an earlier post, to be against the mission is to be in favor of terror and assholes like Osama bin Laden. If you love Osama, then mod me down. Mod me down and burn in hell."
2087 is the number break, if my memory serves me.
If a "User" of slashdot is temporarily disabling HOF in an attempt to stop this, I warn you that you are working in towards the goals of Osama bin Laden regardless of your good intentions. Your time would be much better spent utilizing your User priviledges to quickly post 400 comments in this thread and send it to the top, and then we will all go home.
Thanks.
This spam intrigues me. (I am not a time traveler or universe editor, let's get out of the way right now.)
I'm interested to know if any other slashdot people have received this particular piece of spam.
I'll be popping a few key phrases from it into groups.google.com right now, to see if it has made usenet.
A search on "IneedTimeTravel@aol.com" on groups.google.com came up nil.
But on the ordinary web google search, I hit. Someone has an online personal journal in which they mention receiving this:
Roger Avry's Journal(Scroll down a bit and look at the Feb 12th entry)
Another Journal this one was received on the 10th.
I'd like to promise my constituents that this matter will be throughly investigated in between crapflood posts to this thread in the name of Love vs. Terrorism.
. . . as well as those very very few beings who can edit the universe.
Do your universe editing skillz include editting Slashdot's mySQL database ? If so, can you go back in time to Sept. 11th and delete a few hundred meaningless posts from those stories that are higher than this one in total number of posts ?
I'd also like editor priviledges and 50 karma points. Also, feel free to make a certain 21 hijackers all have massive, explosive diarhea causing them to have car wrecks on the way to airport.
Then, if you aren't TOO busy, just send an email to IneedTimeTravel@aol.com and await further instructions.
Do not send email to IneedTimeTravel@aol.com if you are an evil alien. He has specifically asked not to be spammed by evil aliens.
But someone has to do it.
I may be a Rude Dude, but when it comes to Love vs. Terrorism, I know what side I'm on.
Posts by another half million slashdot accounts seem surprisingly lacking, however.
I believe that in 7 sweet, sweet posts we will take over #3 in the hall of fame.
But I can't check it because HOF is currently being Michael Simed.
I should get a medal.
Instead I have been banned for "bad posting" and am not allowed to post AC.
Oh well, that just means the moderators will have to waste more points to get me down, as I post logged in.
Slow Down Cowboy!
I jumped the gun there. I've gotten so where my skin crawls at 120 seconds and I know I should hit submit. But it's way way way way past my bedtime and I'm anxious to get this thankless, but necessary, task done.
It's now one point away from a tie.
I think.
The Hall of Fame is still blank.
I'll just have to pop in a few extra posts to make sure.
That's right bitch, how does it feel to be only #4 ?
Ask your friend Junis Kanuni to boot up that C-64 of his, and depending on how many times he has to clean out the 1541 drive with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol (is that non-islamic ? how do you fuckers disinfect scratches ?) maybe around noon you can see for yourself.
punk.
Just in case some "User" decides to delete one or two posts here and there.
