Dior iPod case

An Anonymous Coward writes "How cool is the iPod? Cool enough that Christian Dior is selling an iPod case. It was designed by Dior Homme's Hedi Slimane, because he didn't know where to store his own iPod. It's black leather."

Not only can I get ripped off for an iPod, I can get ripped off of for a designer carrying case for it too! Such amazing innovation. Im not normally someone to complain, but this definately does not belong on slashdot. If I wanted to read about tech fashion accessories that are overpriced, I'd read Wired.

BTW, if you are at Collette, they have some super cool laptop briefcases for the titanium one made by Alfred Dunhill and another by Ermenegildo Zegna. This will set you back by $1500-2000 (the price of an iBook), but IMHO it is well worth it in certain upper echelons. Some of us geeks are Consuls :-)

A little off topic, and please don't consider this a flame, but here goes...

Alfred Dunhill designs some cool stuff, including this carbon fiber pen and a decent line of watches, but I refuse to buy anything from a guy who sells deadly addictive drugs as fashion accesories. Yeah, I know he probably got started with that line when it was cool, but he's still raking in the blood money. I'm not sure what the proportion of smoking is among the geek community (I suspect its lower than average), but since we're the ones that tend to go for his high-tech materials, I wonder if he has totally alienated other geeks, too.

I predict the emminent collapse of Christian Dior as a harbinger of fashion. Call it a hunch. Those living in the past cannot plan for the future.

All kidding aside, the way Apple products look elegant is matched by the way Apple's hardware and software elegance - sleek, smooth and functional. I'm not surprised those with an eye to elegance are moving to Apple's latest offerings.

This is funny enough that I don't feel I really need to make a comment. I will say, however, that I really like the Pod Protector I bought from Other World Computing (OWC).

Fits like a glove, has a nice swivel belt clip, and it's only $30. It's no fashion accessory, but then I'm normally using my iPod at the gym and shiny black designer leather doesn't go so well with a profusely sweating, rich, yuppie elitist.

    Oh wait... maybe it does.

I'd like to see more designer cases like this (maybe a little cheaper). I got a leather case for my iPod, but I'm not really happy with the way it looks. I feel like one of those people that takes a great looking European sports car and sticks a chunky, black nose bra on it.

I wish someone could come up with a protective case that complements the look of the iPod. Is white leather possible? Maybe something that doesn't look like it was stitched by angry home-ec students?

it's great..... granted there is something unsettling about non-nrrds having such cool toys (when i do not!), but there is also something pretty crazy about designers like that making a case for such a specific product. ignoring the price debate, the ipod is a REALLY rad device. using it as a walkman is just the beginning.... and the more Apple sells, the more of those neat little hard drives Apple buys. more money will go into developing them (hello multiple micro laptop drives). also if Apple keeps tweaking them every 5 months (as it seems is their current revision schedule) these "elite" people will have to sell their "outdated" devices on ebay.... sooner or later i will have one/some. granted it might have "happy birthday princess" laser engraved in the back, but i'll cope.

amyway, my rambling point is that i personally think it's a silly case, but i can't really see anything being a bad situation that leads to more Apple products being sold. there are people that want stuff like this.
yes, i am a stockholder too, but i have less than $1,000 worth of shares and do see this post making them so valuable that i can retire at 30.
