Mozilla Branches For 1.0 RC1

At the end of last month, the Mozilla Project closed the tree for what will become Mozilla 1.0. Now jkeiser writes "Mozilla has branched for 1.0 RC1, which is the first last step to a final Mozilla 1.0! Mozilla has spent four long years getting the browser standards-compliant, fast and solid. Cross your fingers for a rockin' final release around the corner." Reader whovian points to the just-modified roadmap, too.

But does it check ahead for links like this one? I'd kill a man for a browser that blocks that sort of site.

FS/OS cannot be viable in the longrun, sorry. I want to believe in FS/OS as a solution to MS and AOL/TimeWarner, but it ain't gonna happen.

Quality Software (including browsers) take enormous amounts of time and research to make. Only if people's time is not valuable or scarce, would FS/OS be a working model. Now that would be possible if the US Government didn't devalue its currency, stick its hands into people's pockets to pay bankers who "sell" us our dollars after printing them, and confiscate american families wealth (like it began doing by confiscating people's gold in 1945).

But since 95% of people spend their time working to support their houses that they down own and probably will never own outright and paying bankers with their tax dollars, nobody has the time to write quality software. They want money!

I say people should start contributing money to projects like mozilla, Apple, Free Software, and Open Source projects if you want to see them survive. The internet needs to shift to a patronage system (instead of ads) and people need and should feel the need to contribute to major projects if they have clearly benefitted from it.

I am working on a solution for linux/unix.

Yeah, editing /etc/hosts is just too easy. It's no fun. I hope that your solution is scripted in Python and works Linux kernel version X.YZ.ZY+Low-Latency Bullshit TirePatches.

Open Sores is just a thin veil for programmer incompetency. Giving shitty source code away for free doesn't actually make it good code.

Internet Explorer is the only browser out there (at least at the moment) that doesn't suck.

"4 years for a 1.0"!?! Do me one. This is not something written from the ground up. However much new code there is in there, Mozilla was based on the Netscape source release and is "1.0" in name only. They have taken 4 years to get back where they started.

Where else can you get coverage like this about a browser!?!

I mean it's a great browser, and it's come a long way, but this kinda of reporting borders on Star Wars theatrical opening obsession.
