Google Does the News
rizen was among the countless readers who submitted that google does the news. They've added a new tab to their interface, and a CNNish sorta web page that indexes thousands of online news sites. Their technology section is showing some Slashdot stories too (sweet!). I like that they combine related stories on the same subject.
Nifty setup.
piss frost
do we really need this?
"Herbivores eat well cause their food never, ever runs."
That'll come in handy for doing large-scale research projects on subjects such as cloning and stem-cell research. I can not even begin to imagine the possibilities. I think my life just got one hell of a lot easier. :)
Thank you, Google!

DTU, Akademivej student dorms, the last room at the end of the 2nd floor corridor. I will suck you off for 120 DKK. Only healthy, clean and uncircumsised men need to apply.
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - horror/fiction writer Stephen King was found dead in his Florida home this morning. He turned 55 a few days ago, and there weren't anymore details. I'm sure the entire slashdot community will miss him; even if you weren't a fan of his work there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.
Nice page. Really interesting.
But unfortunately (= due to gross incompetence) the Google News page has very bad HTML. A visit to the W3C validator reveals an amazingly long list of errors. Bad Google!
The HTML actually seems to be (possibly) even worse than the Slashdot (so called) HTML. But it's not easy to check, since Slashdot seems to have blocked the W3C validator!!! (I can understand why though...). Bad Slashdot!
If you're going to troll, at least spell "incur" correctly.
This morning:
Slashdot runs an article about Google's new News feature
Later today?
Google's new News feature runs the Slashdot article about Google's new News feature
Minutes Later...
Slashdot readers everywhere crash as their brains and browsers get caught in an infinite loop!!
using System.Awesome;
Maybe the post above you was right.
Also, anybody who types "Hear hear" needs to be punched in the kidneys. Hard.
yeah. make that strange breathing noise wait in a queue. yeah. ok. oh, that is unless you meant "cue" perhaps.
I'm pretty sure this is illegal, as it is violating the news companies' copyrights
So how do we get a partner agreement. I have yet to read a NY Times article posted here.
While I can see the humour in your post, the dupe detection code is actually pretty easy to implement. However, it probably would not be as efficient, if you take into consideration how short /. news blurbs usually are.
Hello CmdrTaco, are you reading this? Time to put down the crack pipe and sober up!
Guys, I'd hate to rain on Google's parade, but news search (as in news and not USENET) has been done already by other search engines. The only thing that is different is that Google has a "current news" page and that their news are older than those on Alltheweb.
I usually use Google for web searching, but I still use Alltheweb for multimedia content and news searching. They simply do it better than Google.
I hope they keep growing and making a crapload of money. Actually, Google is one of the few things in the 'net I'd pay good money for. It's definitely worth it.
