Xandros 1.0
Mr. Smoove writes "Despite the quick-off-the-mark review from Newsforge this morning, the Xandros 1.0 desktop is finally here! No free download so you'll have to shell out US$99 for it but you do get an enhanced (?) version of KDE 2.2 and built-in Cross-Over Plugin and Office! Finally a decent challenger to Lycoris and also what Lindows should have been..." There's also an interview with a Xandros executive.
I only wish I would have thought of starting a company to sell outdated versions of free software for $99 and calling it 'enhanced'
Some people take all the good ideas.
does anybody think that xandros looks a bit too much like windows? for 99 bucks, why not just buy windows? wait... you can get it for 39.99... here's the link folks: http://members.microsoft.com/partner/campaign/Winp ro2.aspx
it is very unprooven...sure the tech that it is built on is prooven, but the way they put it together can make it unstable...they also have cool little apps like a utility that automagicly configures SAMBA and provides all the SMB machines on a specific domain in one window.
if Xandros offered a $30 version that did not include Crossover, then I would pay for it, test it, and if I liked it, I would buy Xover from Xandros (since I am sure it needs to be installed a certain way and is configured a certain way.)
