Any other seemingly valid reasons to switch away from UNIX and to begin using MacOS X?

Do you have $2500 eating a hole in your pocket and want to buy a new fangled gadget? If so, a Mac is pretty cool. If not, stick with the $500 PC running FreeBSD or Linux and you won't notice a difference except having more money in your checking account.

Mac OSX must truly be an amazing piece of technology. Every single article here on slashdot portrays it in a positive light, along with apple technology as well. Hell, even Apples advertisements receive glowing praise here.

Since we know Slashdot would never, ever be unbiased in any way, its clear that apple has produced a superior product. Oh, the GUI and other components aren't open source or anything like that. But look, eye candy!

The biggest difference is that Macs are used by pathetic dilettantes who would sell their own mothers to be viewed as stylish and hip by people from Northern California.

Unix users, on the other hand, are people who are actually serious about using computers for work that contributes to society, such as research.

    That's a huge difference.

...given that most Slashdot readers seem to be advocates of Open Source operating systems on commodity hardware, why the enthusiasm for encouraging people to switch to OSX - a closed source operating system made by the poster-child for locking people into overpriced hardware?

People might like to think that Apple is somehow better than Microsoft, but trust me - if they had Microsoft's monopoly, their behavior would be no better, in fact, given that they would have a monopoly on hardware too - things would be much worse.

I simply don't understand people. How is this offtopic? It's my opinion damit!! And why the hell do people mod down anyway?? Modding stuff up pushes other stuff down, so it must be cause you're little bitches.Sigh....

I love /. but it makes me cringe when I see bad jokes, pro-MS, or alternate opinions modded down.

And yes this is totally OT, but your mod points are more usefull elsewhere...it's gonna get modded down anyway, though, lol.
