Abiword's PayPal Donation Fund Robbed
SabberFlapper writes "According to this Announcement to the developer list of Abiword the Abiword fund was robbed. Dom Lachowicz writes: 'I'm duty bound to let you all know that the AbiWord Fund/Tip Jar has
been robbed approximately three weeks ago. I'm telling you this now,
rather than sooner, since I believed that Paypal would do something
about my complaints during the interim, and that this would all be
resolved quietly. Today, 23 days later, this does not look like it will
happen. [..]
I do however, recommend doing several things:
1) Writing to Paypal, in letter, email, or fax form alerting them to
this travesty.
2) Calling Paypal on AbiWord's behalf.
3) Writing or calling your Congressman/woman, pointing out that Paypal
is acting like a bank, but not operating under formal banking laws.
4) Boycotting Paypal because of these reasons, and the fact that their
system is notoriously insecure, and encouraging others to do the same.'" Of all the groups to steal from -- AbiWord?
should really die. this isnt the first time theft has occured on paypal
(to the forgiving moderators: i'm aware that my posts may digress from...yeah, basically anything, so fuck off)
I do AbiWord up the ass!
how much was stolen, $20-$25? Who is dumb enough to steal from these broke ass opensource commies?
so the hooker you pay half your money to can take the other half? yeah thats just as wise
(to the forgiving moderators: i'm aware that my posts may digress from...yeah, basically anything, so fuck off)
PayPal Sucks crap. Ebay + PayPal = Huge pile of crap! I wish it were not so. G
So, stuff the money. I mean, its all about the lambda-expressions, right? You only just urged your readers to pay for software, though you call it a donation. Computation is computation, and anything less than that is the talk of pussy hackers. I mean fuck. Are there any real programmers left?
My cell phone was stolen from my truck, which I left unlocked, it isn't my truck's fault is it? Money was stolen from your PayPal account... how did they get your password? There is a lot of bitching that PayPal is insecure/at fault, explain how this is PayPal's fault and not the person(s) responsible for the money? I will say what everyone else is dancing around... the thief might be close to home.
Screw Paypal indeed. They just recently started requiring all High-Risk merchants to pay upwards of $1500 to continue processing credit cards with Visa and Mastercard, when they have been free in the past. They are going to lose a ton of clients (including me) because of this change. They say this change was instituted directly by Visa and Mastercard, but it still stinks.
They are putting alot of small business out of business.
Screw Paypal in their bitch asses.
actually i'd say it's more likly paypal is holding their money and have accused them of coming a crime. paypal are notorious for doing this.
It's a good thing she did too, that stupid whore ass bitch.
No, she'd go off on some long-ass diatribe about how fucking stupid something is. She's a bitch.
IANAL but...
Being hard to contact in itself isn't fradulent. However, it is fraud when they are avoiding customers who have legitamate claims against them, wether they know it or not. In this case, it is fraud. Period.
Any company who is accepting money from anybody and ignores those same people when they attempt to contact them for a complaint against the service or product is fraudulent. therefore, PayPal may be fradulent. This is evidence that can be presented in court against PayPal and it would stand up as well. (Unless there is a contract that was signed stating otherwise)
Two infinite things: your stupidity and mine. But I'm not sure about the latter. If my sig offends you, I'm sorry.

From the sound of the post, it I figured it was at least a few grand :)
... hell he was even more honest sounding than King Mobutu from Nigeria who needed my help the other day!"
This isn't exactly the biggest scam in the universe, a drop in the bucket in-terms of the amount of money swindled in other Ebay or PayPal related transactions. (if you can even call it a transaction).
"Oh sure.. I'll just send you this $1k check in the mail and ASSUME my hardware is on the way.... what could possibly go wrong."
"He seemed like a perfectly honest person in the email!!

But you can beat the crap out of a guy, steal his computer, murder his children, and charge him with copyright violation.
You can't judge a book by the way it wears its hair.
So you want us to call and try to get the governemnt to regulate paypal? Yet you yourself admit that the system is not secure? SO WHY DID YOU TRUST IT?
IT WAS YOUR CHOICE!!!
Government regulation is not the answer.
People with higher security needs will user different products, those with modest needs (passing $50 around to pay for an auction) will
keep using paypal.
Wake up! There is only ONE person who can (and should!) look out for you - that person is yourself!
Point Two - Some of you people always amaze me with how quick they want the government to step in! This will ALWAYS lead to trouble in the end.
Asshole
