Bush Demands Apple Recount
*no comment* writes "In what may be one of the funniest things since MSN's site saying iMac is the best computer, Apple's news site picked up a story from crazyapplerumors about how George Bush is demanding a recount an Al Gore's election to the Apple board." Rumor sites bad, parody sites good. Remember that the next time you ask for a press pass to Macworld.
Rumor sites BAD? Hell...as if Mac users (myself included) weren't fanatical enough already, Rumor sites provide the mosed obsessed Mac nuts a place to feel right at home...They're the closest thing to a case mod community Apple's got (except, of course, for the Apple case mod community)
But seriously...Apple rumor sites are all in good fun...they give you that little thrill that you know something Mr. Jobs doesn't want you to know. And seldom does harm come from a rumor site (yes, there have been exceptions in the past, but I mean on the whole). And who is to say that the crazy ideas brought up in the bizarre and frightening rumor forums don't give Apple clues as to the direction customers want them to go? Or clues as to how to go about marketing their products?
I don't think they're a bad thing at all...no worse than sites claiming to have the latest screenshots from "Windows Longhorn XXP 2006 super confidential unix-powered beta."

If Gore is an "avid Mac User," what the hell is he doing using Final Cut Pro?
If the Board of Directors is a farcical pile of yes-man dead wood, then stuffing it with busy superstars, celebs, & trendy talking heads is the best strategy.
If the Board of Directors is actually in charge of Apple and running it for the long-term benefit of the shareholders, then the most desirable Directors are those with time to do the job, and experience & ability in areas like running large organizations.
I think Jobs is pretty good, but his ego, pay, etc. are long overdue for some real control.
It's easy to make up & spread cool- and credible-sounding stuff. Finding & checking hard facts is hard work.
Any joke is funny because it has a basis in fact, however tenuous.
I'm a Republican as a whole and a conservative all the time, black, and a Macintosh user. I find the link and the article very funny, just as many of us would giggle when we hear the word "chad" nowandays.
And, folks, given the events going on in the world, can't we all use a laugh about a nonsense item like this? Apple isn't in the business of making us laugh or giving commentary about world events, so this small nod to humor is a way to make us smile a bit and remember when life was a little simpler.
The only thing that would be funnier is getting Al Gore's tongue-in-cheek response back in turn: "Dibs, George. And, by the way, your AppleCare warranties appear to have expired..."
