Bush Demands Apple Recount
*no comment* writes "In what may be one of the funniest things since MSN's site saying iMac is the best computer, Apple's news site picked up a story from crazyapplerumors about how George Bush is demanding a recount an Al Gore's election to the Apple board." Rumor sites bad, parody sites good. Remember that the next time you ask for a press pass to Macworld.
Rumor sites BAD? Hell...as if Mac users (myself included) weren't fanatical enough already, Rumor sites provide the mosed obsessed Mac nuts a place to feel right at home...They're the closest thing to a case mod community Apple's got (except, of course, for the Apple case mod community)
But seriously...Apple rumor sites are all in good fun...they give you that little thrill that you know something Mr. Jobs doesn't want you to know. And seldom does harm come from a rumor site (yes, there have been exceptions in the past, but I mean on the whole). And who is to say that the crazy ideas brought up in the bizarre and frightening rumor forums don't give Apple clues as to the direction customers want them to go? Or clues as to how to go about marketing their products?
I don't think they're a bad thing at all...no worse than sites claiming to have the latest screenshots from "Windows Longhorn XXP 2006 super confidential unix-powered beta."

It would have been more prudent for Apple to select someone with a "winner" image, maybe someone from the world of sports like Michael Jordan.
I thought the Crazy Apple Rumors story was pretty funny. I thought Apple's linking to it from their news page made it hilarious. And yet, I've never had any warm 'n' fuzzy feeling about Steve Jobs sense of humor.
No prediction, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to find that some spirited person at Apple has lost their job over this. Hope not.

That is where election law is defined. I don't think he's saying "this is where it says the Supreme Court can decide elections"; he's saying "this is where the system of elections are defined, and since the supreme court is the ultimate authority on interpreting the constitution, they are indeed the final arbiter here".

I find that site so god dam annoying. Its probably because I had incidents with a newbie who just switched from PC posting a new topic for every story but it made me go nuts. I mean people get it mixed up with the real sites. (God knows how) I also dont understad the humor on it but I like Jackass wich is hilarious yet so simple a child could have thought it up. Also anyone who bashes the Mac rumor sites probably doesent use a Mac and doesent understand the whole Mac community which can be described as unique in my opinion. I doubt speculating on the next Dell would be very fun because they look shockingly the same and the changes are always 'big' and 'exciting' like no disk drive, shock shock horror horror. I supose there is just more to speculate about and take an intrest because Apples stuff is normaly quite inoativite. Also when your watching the Keynot (If they still exist) you can laugh at thr rumor sites that got it wrong you dislike and claim that it was an easy mistake to make if you liked them And have you seen how much Apple charges us? Dont want to buy a Mac then see a new one next week. Not usualy long between anouncment and shipping unless its high end. but apple really hates them because then we do say lets not spend and they get odd spikes in sales and then you get the im eaithinf got the model with these new features and they take ages to buy them. The buyers guide at macrumors.com shows it perfectly. Some things it says DONT BUY which is not what apple wants. Ok this is a round up but if you read rumors then you would pretty much know this.
I kind of expected that someone at Apple posted the link to "Bush Demands Recount" on their Hot News site late at night and no one had noticed yet, but it's been there all day.
I think it shows that Apple has a pretty good sense of humor that they kept it up there, even though some conservative Mac users are probably pretty steamed.
Well, probably not as steamed as the thousands people in Florida who didn't get to vote in the 2000 election because the private auditing firm hired by Jeb Bush arranged for legitimate voters to have their votes tossed out if they had a similar name to that of a felon's.

I'm a Republican as a whole and a conservative all the time, black, and a Macintosh user. I find the link and the article very funny, just as many of us would giggle when we hear the word "chad" nowandays.
And, folks, given the events going on in the world, can't we all use a laugh about a nonsense item like this? Apple isn't in the business of making us laugh or giving commentary about world events, so this small nod to humor is a way to make us smile a bit and remember when life was a little simpler.
The only thing that would be funnier is getting Al Gore's tongue-in-cheek response back in turn: "Dibs, George. And, by the way, your AppleCare warranties appear to have expired..."
