Star Trek - Elite Force 2 Demo Out Now
suedehed writes "The Star Trek: Elite Force 2 demo is out. And it ROCKS! Here's the Fileplanet link." Bonus links to Fileshack and Happy Puppy (registration required) - this is another worthy FPS demo (courtesy Ritual and Activision) that should be well worth checking out. Update: 05/02 22:02 GMT by S : Here's a BitTorrent link.
Is there any really good mirror that isn't a wait in line and a registration? Bit Torrent, perhaps?
Good quote, too many chars. Seriously, the slashdot 120 char limit sucks!
I didn't really like the first one but, I'll try this version anyway :)
I fought the corporate America, and the corporate America bought the law.
I'd post my own BitTorrent link, but FileShack says it'll be another 70 minutes until I can even start downloading...
Anyone, anyone?

Ash and Hickory, straight-grained and true, make excellent bludgeons, dandy for the cudgeling of vegetarians.
Does this game use the newer version of Quake 3 engine, or is it the same as Elite Force 1?

At least these links don't require registration and logins.
You should be able to put one of these links in wget or your favourite ftp client with a timed retry.
Fromt he wget documentation here.
`--tries=number'
Set number of retries to number. Specify 0 or `inf' for infinite retrying.
`--wait=seconds'
Wait the specified number of seconds between the retrievals. Use of this option is recommended, as it lightens the server load by making the requests less frequent. Instead of in seconds, the time can be specified in minutes using the m suffix, in hours using h suffix, or in days using d suffix. Specifying a large value for this option is useful if the network or the destination host is down, so that Wget can wait long enough to reasonably expect the network error to be fixed before the retry.

Here is a torrent mirror, don't forget to keep your client running afterwards, but nice with me :)

P.S. Thanks to torrents.cx for the upload/link
Yeah, but not matter how good the game might be, it's all still based on old Quake3 technology.
It's still just a rehash of old concepts. More of the same...
I'm downloading it anyway. Also, I'm a gameplay over graphics person... Long live Alpha Centauri.
The original had massive gamma problems. Hopefully they fixed the bug in the SEQUEL they chose to ignore with the original. I finally found a post from a user that had a clue with the command to fix it, after trying a mess of non-working suggestions from Activision "support."
Another 45 minutes and I'll know with the rest of the world.
No Linux version. Come on, guys, join us in the third millennium already! Linux versions should be obligatory by now!

...and I have to agree that System Shock 2 was one of the best games I've ever played. System Shock was the first Doom-like game that I actually thought was a good game and SS2 took the same idea, told an interesting sequel to the story and updated the technology. Like any good game, the fact that the technology is a few years old doesn't matter, there's an interesting story, creepy environment, lots of action, and good RPG elements.
I'll check out the Star Trek game, but I bet I won't like it as much as SS2.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.
