I like how the first thing on their minds is giving us a blow-by-blow play of evolution vs. intelligent design. (See third paragraph) Is it too much to ask for a story that just says, "Hey look, we found this cool fossil that seems to coincide properly with the theory of evolution in a way that we haven't seen before" without bringing up how stupid intelligent design is? Hasn't it crossed anyone's mind that the existence of evolutionary changes might not play any role whatsoever in the proving or disproving of the existence of a higher power? I mean, it's God we're talking about here. He could've created the birds from the fish, then the land creatures from the birds by means of evolution like he created woman from man, if he wanted to. Or we could be trapped in a strange time loop and the fossils we keep digging up are really genetic experiments of creatures that couldn't survive and died out in the future. Actually, I'd better claim copyright on that idea so I can write a crappy mini-series for the sci-fi channel. Anyway, the point is that evolution really is still a theory. Granted, it seems like a pretty good one so far, but it's not exactly provable without either time travel or the witnessing of the generation of a new species in our midst.
Okay, so I get that you're just trying to "save" all of those crazy fundamentalists from believing in something that doesn't seem scientifically viable. Just thought I'd let you know that making fun of them doesn't really help your case. Though what really annoys me are the people who are into Christianity for purely political reasons and make the rest look like fools when they go up to bat for some foolhardy idea (a la Kansas), but that's a whole other discussion.
What is it with people continuing to compare number of exploit fixes per month and whatnot to determine how secure something is? Surely we know by now that it's not a good idea. Didn't we just have an article a few days ago explaining the top 10 worst security practices? Anyway, this could mean that using firefox will net you lots of spyware or make it easier for someone to hack you. Or it could mean that the people working on firefox are better at finding and patching security holes (either because firefox has more of them or because it's coded better).
In one article, we complain about bosses always being persuaded by hype, and in the next we overreact to the same hype. What hype-ocrisy.
It was an interesting read, but not really newsworthy, in my opinion. Mostly, it boiled down to "much ado about nothing". Sure, they support content protection flags. Right now, only PPV actively uses them. And the one example of misuse was the mistake of a local broadcast television station over the antenna signal. So, if they support content protection flags for analog signals, which can apparently be easily removed, what does it really matter to us? There's the potential for abuse, but until that happens, it's not a problem. Just keep a watch on it.
haha. i remember my geometry teacher making a kid in my class stand in front of the window on the door while he enacted his "favorite scene from Titanic", which happens to be that one.
when i right-clicked the url and opened it in a new tab, i got "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".
turns out it just left out the 5 and the 9 at the end, but it made me laugh when i saw that.:)
My school has a computer club already, but I'm the only one in it who's really interested in computers. We don't do much except have a party at Christmas, do a "softwear" drive to collect peoples old coats and donate them to the salvation army, and generally don't meet. We used to do the school web page, but that got transferred to being a class, which I took once and was really bored with. The computer teacher who sponsers it can't be swayed towards anything other than microsoft on gateways. All of your suggestions sound good, and I wish I were in your position. Good luck! I'm afraid I haven't really given myself much time to think about any suggestions, due to a pressing English term paper, but I'll be sure to post them here if I do think of something.
is if the people would've reacted the same way if absolutely nothing was played at all, just sitting there. I'm sure some of them might've still gotten angry after figuring out they just wasted an hour listening to genuine silence.:)
I convinced my parents to give me an Apple IIgs for Christmas (it was $50). It was in working condition. (ie. very dirty, but didn't melt when plugged in. (Kiss-off works great on permanent marker.)). I've found most of the parts that didn't come with it for fairly cheap (total about as much as the computer when including shipping). It came with a monitor, the Rom 01 in it's case, a mac keyboard II (no cord, though. my uncle's school has plenty, however), and a 5.25" disk drive. I ordered a 1MB memory card, 2 3.5" drives, a 1MB SCSI HD, a CD-ROM drive, and a trackball. I got a new battery from a local store. So far it's shaping up pretty well. I just have to make do with 4 short wires from an electronics kit to use the keyboard, haha. I just need a SCSI card, which will be tough to find. Anyone have one they're willing to give up?
I also have a Kaypro II with a floppy drive upgrade (and someone moved the reset button to the front) that I picked up at a boy scout garage sale for $15 with a lot of floppy disks. Somehow, while trying to copy one of the more unique system utility floppy disks, I deleted all of the files. It just happened to be the only floppy with the unerase program. Oh well. My dad made me get rid of the first compouter we owned. It was a Pentium-90 with a horrible motherboard. I still have the sound card (a Mitsumi Mozart - extremely hard to use with linux) because I like the sound of the OPL3 chip. My grandparents recently brought me an IBM 486-66MHz that I want to turn into a router/firewall for the network I hope to someday have.
Alright, so I guess that next time I'll just post the shortened version: "Stop bickering, children!"

Someone ought to mod the parent up. They really should get this right.

We're going to go far together. :D Only machine on which I can easily successfully type a term paper.
And for once i realized it on my own!!!! now if only i could rig the bell system at my school to ring every five minutes...
now i have a question. how does one convince compusa to place a store in one's city? :)
haha. i remember my geometry teacher making a kid in my class stand in front of the window on the door while he enacted his "favorite scene from Titanic", which happens to be that one.
There's a link to the copy hosted by filefront.com on effiles.com

why do all the screens look poorly pasted on in photoshop except for one? particularly in this one. i wouldn't think they should need to do that.

So this is another dupe? I wonder how many stories get duplicated that never make it to the front page. Anyone know?

According to an article in a local newspaper, CO2 is harmful to plants. When will oxygen harm us?
