They would probably stop flaming like that too if the moderators would moderate it as a flame or troll rather than +5 informative. Any media site (slashdot IS a media site even though it does not write it's own articles) should not have biased people controlling moderation. When something is moderated down it is not seen when filters are in place. Personally I get sick of my filter not seeing things like "I wish *nix would do this like Windows so I could switch" since it's moderated down as troll but my screen is FULL of "Windows sucks!" +5 Informative. I like all kinds of operating systems. Too bad the moderators support Anti-MS flames. It's NOT INFORMATIVE if we've seen it 5 million times already. It's redundant at best.
By the way, this is guaranteed to get 0 MOD points or be modded down in the negatives.

Ah, but you're talking about Slashdotters bitching. Those people are just that: Slashdot flamers. They're not the developers behind GNOME and GTK+.
You are correct, and I didn't make that point very clearly. I'm not criticizing the GNOME developers for not breaking backward compatability. I'm criticizing the/. community for having a double standard as it pertains to projects like this. Sorry for the confusion.

That's only what you think you see. What I see all the time is: 1) People who complain about Linux. 2) People who complain that pro-Linux comments get modded up and anti-MS comments get modded down. These posts usually have the highest moderation points! 3) People complaining about the Linux community.
Sorry but the anti-MS pro-Linux era has passed. For quite a while now. That is a fact, open your eyes and look at reality.

I do agree that Slashdotters have a double standard. This goes for pro/anti-MSness too. Have you noticed that most of the post that say "Slashdot always mods anti-MS comments down and pro-Linux comments up! I will get moderated down for saying this!" always get modded *up*? Slashdot isn't even an anti-MS pro-Linux site anymore.

Hmm.. the cheapest G5 I can find is the low low price of $1900!
Now, lets see what kind of PC processor power I can buy with $1900.
Oh look.. $1057 Opteron 246 with cpu, fan
And for only a little more, I can get a dual motherboard, and another cpu at: $799 - Opteron 246
Yeah... I know how slow gnome goes on the highest end dual opteron processors!!!
