Homemade Star Wars Flick/Fanimatrix Movie
Geminus writes "There's a really cool fanmade Star Wars video called 'Duality' in the wild. The homemade video used only three props and apparently the quality was good enough that the makers were hired on by Lucas Films. The film was 90% made with Electric Image Universe, Adobe After Effects, FinalcutPro, and Commotion Pro. Of course the rest was the blood sweat and tears of the crew. I have to admit it is a very good example of what software can do today without million dollar render farms and special effects equipment." And as a followup to the Fanimatrix story the other day, the movie is now available: LarsBT writes "It's out. Get the full movie. Here's the torrents: normal mpeg version torrent (170 MB); Normal Divx version torrent (73 MB); and finally the High quality DivX torrent (135 MB)."
...is also 2 years old.
BitTorrent. You could have always googled for ".torrent" or "torrent." It's the second link.
I'm getting just 14 kBytes/s download and 30 kBytes/s upload. Come on people, make sure to leave your bittorrent dialog open after you download it. Share the love!
I posted a BitTorrent for the Duality 640 DivX here.
http://download.divx.com/showcase/duality.divx
Mirrors of both of these:
Duality (HQ, DiVX and Mov*): HTTP | FTP
Fanimatrix (Trailer and Full, HQ DiVX): HTTP | FTP
* Note: This mirror is in progress now, a whopping 9k/s, so be patient!
The video is about 16 minutes long. It is actually decent. Don't expect it to have special effects out of this one. The only one I considered is the agent dodging bullets. There aren't any camera rotations.
;)
There are some cool run and fight scenes. Of course, there is the nmap reference like in Reloaded movie. Running Windows with a lot of holes in this fan flick.

What you don't realize is that the download speed is relative to the upload speed. So if you have very little downloaded, you can not upload very much. However, if you wait a couple of minutes, the rate goes up drastically because you have enough content to share to enough people.
You really should read about it. The devil's in the details.

README.txt only explains how to start running a tracker and start hosting files, not how to download. I was amazed.
Think of it this way: When you start a download you get some credit to get you started. Once your credit has gone you have to acquire more credit by uploading data, each chunk you upload earning you around 3 more chunks worth of download credit. Once your download completes, any further uploads you permit before closing the dialog is pure charity since you get nothing for it other than the karma of contributing to the network.
UNIX? They're not even circumcised! Savages!
140 down and 40 up here, though I'm posting 20 minutes later. Remember to forward ports 6881 through 6889 on your router or other people behind firewalls won't be able to send you blocks.
Sorry but most everyone knew about that one almost 2 years ago. there is a much better fan film in the making (and with some clips available to be watched) at www.rewindvideo.com called heart of the rebellion.
duality had some good parts, some of the CG was hokey not because of bad cg, but bad editing and acting.
Dont get me wrong, it's cool, but hardly anything fantastic... while heart of the rebellion is unbelieveable in acting, props being made and the camera work by true masters of the art.
Do not look at laser with remaining good eye.
Heres the link for the bit torrent impaired The-Fanimatrix-(DivX-5.1-HQ).avi
It's the Matrix meets Sam Raimi... which I like.
:^)
One thing that got me. In that first "trinity" fight scene, was that white-haired security guard played by... TV's Frank? Wow - so, second-banana heaven is The Matrix fan movies!
Definetly a perfect role for bar-dwelling goths.

No, you shouldn't. This is a joke, as opening those ports would open your Windows machines to attack.
Not Matrix or SW related. But there is ST themed really high quality and ambitious fan fiction that you may enjoy. That is, if fan fictioning is your kick.
Quod scripsi, scripsi.
I actually posted a link to the Duality website back in this post, but I think that the ones with real stories like Broken Allegiance, The Dark Redemption, The Formula, and most recently Reciprocity (no relation to Duality that I'm aware of) destroy any FX-only project like Duality or AotS2.

that is why you need the Experimental Release of Bit Torrent which allows you to cap your upload at a certain speed.
:)
works great.
Personally, I think Bounty Trail is one of the best star wars fan films.
As far as comedy goes Pink Five is the funniest fanfilm. It ranks right up there with Troops.
I dont know why duality was posted, its almost three years old.

;)
they did post a mpeg, and an avi. Bittorrent is just the way of getting it.
/. effect happening to servers.
It stops from hammering servers, cause you upload while you download. You can get the file faster and so does everyone else without the
I love BT. It kicks ass. I use it under Linux, and it works well.
Over 120 gigs of legal videos and music downloaded. Nice huh?
BTW while I am an a rant: RIAA listen UP! I ONLY listen to legally shared, non commercial music. Sorry but you missed the boat. The bands I listen to get my money when I see them, and no other way.
You're probably maxing out your connection uploading so you cant make download connections.. Try limiting your uploads with the
--max_upload_rate
command
Set it to about half your upload speed,so like:
--max_upload_rate 12
Or be a horrible evil leecher like me and do
--max_upload_rate 1
(hey i only get 7.5 gig up a month, cant waste it)
Probably doesn't qualify as a fan work, but Troops is worth checking out.
The slow allocating has been fixed in the new 3.3 client (it doesnt allocate the complete file anymore, just allocates as it needs)
As long as a torrent has a lot of seeders it should not get slow.. The problem is everyone that downloaded it, when this story first got posted, exited BT as soon as they were done..
YOU HAVE TO LEAVE BITTORRENT OPEN, at least long enough to upload as much as you downloaded.. leechers suck
The DivX itself is broken. I got it yesterday, and the audio starts desyncing severely near the beginning.
